So, I often use a bit of gravy browning when I make some gravy as I prefer it quite dark. However after all this time, I've only just noticed on the bottle label that it suggests using it for home brewing. See pics below.

Has anyone tried? What were the results like? Does it affect the taste?

I have read about this before, it is just used for colouring.
 
Think the bottle lurking in our cupboard just describes the ingredients as caramel. Not surprising given this is what commercial breweries/ whisky produces use to cheat on colour.

May have been what Charlie Bamforth used when he made a beer out of vodka.
