I bought a couple of cases of Saint Omer Lager stubbies, at the Auchan Supermarket in Dunkerque. Tastes good - like all good French lagers. What intrigued me though was one of the ingredients, after water and barley, is maize. Whilst maize is used in brewing elsewhere (where?) I haven't come across this in European commercial beers. Presumably with the price of raw materials, maize perhaps is a bit cheaper than barley therefore keeping down the cost of brewing??

Any experts here wish to comment?

Many lagers here in the US use corn in them as an adjunct. I used to use some in my Fuller's ESB clone. I use flaked maize.
