Just wondering what people's thoughts are about Mangrove Jacks California Common yeast vs Crossmyloof California Common yeast. I've used the MJ version, and liked it. How does the CML version compare?

I'm vice versa...the CML worked fine for a pseudo lager. Iirc I pitched two pkts and fermented at 14...very clear, crisp brew. Price wise... unbeatable!

I've got some saaz to use up but dont really want to buy anymore yeast so price wise the CML is a no brainer. If it's as good as the MJ I'll get the CML

I've made two steam beers, one at the beginning of the year with CML and one a couple of months ago with MJ. Both were very good. Being quite a few months apart I can't give a side by side comparison. If I was needing a cali common yeast I'd buy CML if I were buying hops from CML, or an MJ if I were putting in an order to HBC or such like. In short id be happy with either.

I've got a steam beer fermenting at the minute with my first use of liquid yeast(whitelabs, can't remember the code). I'm looking forward to trying that to see if it was worth the extra cash and effort.

Looks like a split batch comparison.
What is the highest temperature you can ferment at with this yeast?

I've done a Kentucky Common with the CML yeast at around 17. Quite clean, malty. Nice. Didn't lager the resultant beer at all.

I'm about to do a Ron Pattinson historic lager with it, and have had an email chat with them about the yeast. Basically, they say it will go down to 14° double pitched, recommend a diactyl (sp?) rest towards the end of fermenting and a lagering period for top results. I've recently done the same recipe with their Kolsch yeast so it will be interesting to taste them side by side.

CML get my vote!

By the way, I've never bought any of their yeast. I just think their banter is hilarious, hence my +1 for CML. I do get all my hops from them though.

Worth noting....I find their yeasts don't readily pack down in the bottle and require careful pouring.....they do drop very/crystal clear very quickly.

I just started drinks a Rye ipa I brewed 4 weeks ago with their Pale Ale yeast and I found it didn’t stir up too much when I poured, actually if anything better than average. Tastes nice and neutral as I was hoping.
