Hi all, after reading the recipe for alcopops made with the polish syrup, I decided to have a go.

I started some Raspberry and Orange on the go. Just followed the recipe so syrup, sugar water and yeast. The raspberries going well but the orange nothing. Temps are ok, Some froth has appeared at the top like wow. I waited 48hrs, gave it a good stir, put more yeast in, I even put a bit of pectolase in (just in case).

I'm at a loss now, anyone got any suggestions before I bin it. I'm beginning to wonder if there's something in the orange that's not in the raspberry.

NEVER ditch a brew unless you're absolutely certain it has picked up a terminal infection.

What went into the orange one and what is it in - DJ, PET or bucket? Did you measure an OG and has the SG dropped at all?

No I never bothered with an OG reading. The brew is in a demojohn.

Ingredients

1 bottle orange syrup
450g sugar
yeast
topped up with water

It did show some initial signs of fermenting but just never really got going.

I did 2 dj's of raspberry and 2 of orange and it just seems strange that both the raspberry and bubbling away nicely and nowt with the 2 orange :wha:

Like I said, after 48 hrs I gave it a good stir to see if that would wake up the yeasties, nothing.

Added some more yeast just in case

put some pectolase in

Both the raspberry and orange brews were put on at the same time and conditions, recipe etc, that's why I can't work it out. Raspberry works and orange doesn't.

I had a similar issue with 4G of Strawberry Ribena in a water cooler bottle :) I used a sachet of SB23 yeast, put it on for a brew on 13/11/11....nothing happened, waited for a week, still nothing happened, pitched another lot of SB23 yeast in......still nothing happened, checked gravity and it hadn't changed at all! thought there might be too much in container, so decanted 1G into a demijohn and stuck it in the airing cupboard! it sat there for a few days before I saw any action. Was starting to get worried about the 3G in cooler bottle maybe getting an infection so put 3 crushed campden tabs in it and then repitched some Youngs Wine Yeast on 27/11/11!! It has now finally kicked off and is bubbling away nicely!! :)

Just an update, well the orange alcopop has finally kicked into life :D .

It's still a little asthmatic, but it's on the go.

Patience is something I'm not very good with.
