It really depends on your preferences of beer type. Woodfordes Wherry is reliable session bitter and a favourite on this forum. Its available from Wilko and contains two cans of liquid malt extract, so no additional sugar is required.

I love hoppy beers but lots of them are high abv

You could add less sugar or more water but this could affect the final taste.

At least some of the Festival kits come with extra sugar to bump up the ABV. You could do them without adding that extra sugar for a lower ABV.
