Hi All
I'm having a go at a Smash beer bought some Vienna malt some hops I have a choice between Amarillo and Centinal hops. Question is how many hops for a 23l brew,? I have brewing software but can it be trusted to hit the IBU that's stated on the software. Do I dry hop too. I like hoppy beers but normally follow a recipe in a book and convert it with the software. I use Beer Tools Pro software. It's really my first dabble into a single hopped beer.

Why don't you try the SMaSH recipy from Greg Hughes' book.

I find that the tools are generally pretty good at working out the beer profiles. But while that's all good for colour, bitterness etc it all gets a bit sketchy with regards to how hoppy a beer is - that relies on gut feeling and experience.

I tend to have a look at recipes that are similar to what I want to brew and use them as guidance.

Thanks that's confirming what I thought I think the idea about tweeking known beer recipes is a good way to find out about profiles
