Got a friend that was accused of fiddling - don't think she was ever charged but she was forced out of the Post Office she ran. Her husband is adamant that it was that that triggered her Alzheimer's condition. Unfortunately her condition is such that she can no longer understand day to day events - she was as honest as anyone could be. Not acceptable.

It’s an awful situation. What got me is the scale of it, 736 were prosecuted over this. 1 or 2 employees stealing may be expected out abot 9000 of these turtle of branches where this was happeningbut that’s 8% of your staff across the country stealing vast sums of money? You’ve either got a serious vetting problem in your recruitment service when nearly 1 in 10 of your post masters are stealing, or there is another explanation. You can forgive the police and CPS, the cases were spread across many police force areas so the chance that a CID officer or CPS solicitor would have multiple cases is remote so they weren’t going to have a big picture view, unlike the Post Office themselves.

Just came on the radio news:
Revd. Paula Anne Vennells, CBE has just withdrawn from her roles in Dunelm, Morrisons, and duties as a diocesan priest at St Albans Abbey.

She should ethically go the extra mile and hand back the knighthood and priesthood.
But ethics don't seem to have been the strongest suit so far in her life.

BBC news, she has apologised. Oh that's okay then nothing more to be said on the matter and her victims will forget all about their time in prison.

And she only says in her letter to the Bishop of St Albans she is sorry for the 39 who have had their wrongful convictions overturned.
What about the best part of the 1000 others wrongly pursued by her internal money grabbing, prosecution threatening heavy mob?

I listened to the BBC podcast series on this. What an absolute disgrace. PO sounded like they were judge and jury in their 'investigations' and guilty until proven innocent were the poor postmasters. The anguish these people must have gone through is immense.

Makes you wonder who was covering up what. Was the software vendor covering their tracks under the radar of the PO and no-one talking to eachother? It all sounds very odd to say the least....
