Hi all! Last topic of the swap. Yay!

Thanks to all that participated. We got there in the end despite my bad organizing - if anybody is still missing a bottle, PM me and I will sort it out. I've misplaced the deets for the mini swap, but there are only 6 of you, so I hope you can figure it out between you :thumb: hahah.

I THINK this is correct.

Mini swap...

I sent mine to jonnymorris and received from abeyptfc.

I sent mine to loppy.

The recipe I used was:
2 litres white grape juice
1 box of 20 blackberry and nettle tea bags
900g sugar
1 cup strong black tea
Juice of 1 lemon
Yeast (I used Young's super yeast compound)
Nutrient
Pectolase

Boil the tea bags in a litre of water for 30 mins, keep stirring it. After 30 mins remove the tea bags. Add half a litre of water to a saucepan and add the sugar, keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Add the grape juice, black tea and lemon juice to the DJ. when the sugar water and tea juice is cooled, add them to the DJ and top up to 4.5 litres with water. When the temperature is at 25'c or below add the yeast, yeast nutrient and pectolase. Allow to ferment out and then rack. After degassing, add finnings and leave to clear, then it's ready for bottling.

I can't remember if I back sweetened mine or not as I haven't got my notes with me.

I sent mine to Conanthebarber. Recipe below...

Colour: 48 EBC

It ended up at about 8.7% in the end so a lot higher due to greater mash efficiency. It is a very simple ale to make but for best results you need to take about a gallon of the first runnings and boil them down to a few pints this caramelises the wort. This and the yeast WLP0028 gives it its distinct flavour of toffee and amaretta.

I hope you enjoyed it Banjo. :thumb: :thumb:

the beer I got was from BigYin - I was well impressed!
I sent mine to StubbsPKs, but I've not heard in other thread yet - I suspect he may not have liked it... but I'll put up the recipe I used if he wants me to - it was my first attempt at a fiery ginger beer.

jonnymorris said:
I poured the beer and it was... unremarkable. It didn't have a particularly strong aroma but at the same time didn't smell of yeast. It had a head, of sorts but then again, not too much to speak of. And the taste? It was nice. Sorry to use such a **** description but it seemed to me to be a simple, well ballanced session bitter with no unpleasant flavours but no great wow factor either. I really wanted to eulogise about this drink but, in my humble opinion, it was just a nice simple beer. Whilst that may sound negative, I don't mean it to be. A nice simple beer is sometimes just what the doctor ordered (well maybe not the doctor but you get my drift).

Seeing as the Secrets have been revealed...

Whilst that may sound negative, I don't mean it to be.

I can assure you 100% that it was not taken that way, quite the reverse in fact! What I sent you was my first AG. A slight mod on Wheeler's hooky bitter clone - a nice, simple beer!

Delighted with the review and I would have loved to have sent you something more exotic and had I *not* brewed this you might have got something different but (IMO) not as nice - it would have been kit based.

Anyway, for when you want to stock up on easy drinking simple session bitter - recipe is here.

 and bring on the next swap!!!

My recipe was Orfey's Hobgoblin clone, which came out a bit stronger at 5.9%
I believe the recipe is on here somewhere.

My apologies for my lack of attendance recently, sadly my dad passed away over the Christmas period :( .Will be giving him a good send off next thursday.Given time I'll be back brewing,
Cheers guys.

My condolences Simon, I was thinking that was the case from your previous post. Sad news. Remember him fondly.
