Hi Everyone.

I’ve just returned to home brewing after a long absence (decades). I’ve only used kits so far and will make a few more kits before trying more advanced techniques.

My partner’s 90 year old mother would love me to try to recreate her long-dead husband’s beer recipe. (This recipe has not been used for nearly 40 years.)

We have the recipe but the problem is the yeast.

He used “4 Vinotex lager yeast tablets”...lager yeast seems a strange choice because he “hated lager”

I’ve not been able to find a reference to Vinotex yeast via Google (other than just a picture of a box of Vinotex wine yeast), searching this forum and others yielded no results.

Has anyone used this yeast in the past and could suggest a currently available substitute? Or should I pick any Lager yeast and see how it comes out?

Thanks!

Wasn't Vinotex what they used to sell in Boots' home brew section?
If so, does it make sense that it would be Young's yeast?
