What is pectic enzyme? not to sure.

Ok so im still new to all this Wine making.
I came across a recipe well a few of them saying pectic enzyme which I am not sure what it is, Google doesn't help much.

Is it the same as Pectolase? I have to ask otherwise I won't know.
 
Yes, it's the same as pectolase, and pectinase (that one's more common in the USA)

It breaks down the pectin found in many fruits which causes clearing problems

Thanks, Just Wilkos (local store) dont sell pectic enzyme so closes thing I could think of was pectolase.
Also so instead of adding pectic enzyme I can just use pectolase.
 
Pectolase is the name of the pectic enzyme (if i remember my science correctly I believe amylase is a starch enzyme and lactase is a lactose enzyme, so they usually end in "ase" ) so yes they are the same thing :thumb:
 
Just out of interest, what does Pectolase break pectin down into?
