I've got a gallon each of pomegranate wow and an original wow in the spare room. Just some simple sweetening questions...

My original wow I want to just take the edge off, so maybe sweeten from 0.992 to 1.000 - how much sugar? any rules of thumb I should know about? i'm really not a very accurate brewer with wine, so providing it just ends up somewhere around medium dry, medium, medium sweet (or demi sec, ooh la la) i'll be happy.

as for the pomegranate, it's fermenting away with 1 litre white grape, 1 litre pomegranate and 800g sugar. i'm sweetening this one with pomegranate juice for some nice fruit flavour after stabilising. how much should I use for the full gallon? is it wise to bottle a single bottle of it dry, and then add the pomegranate juice into the demi john and let it settle out again?

As Taxi says it's hard to be specific as taste is variable. But there is a great little online calculator Fermcalc. HERE. It will tell you how much sugar to add to raise the SG by a desired amount. EG. You have 1 Imp Gallon at .990 (Very Dry) and want to raise the SG to 1.000 (Medium Sweet). Add 115.93 g or 4.1 oz.

Fermcalc is a great little program that does lots of other things too. :thumb:

From the WOW how to... "For a guide, 0.990 is dry, 0.995 is medium-dry, 1.000 is medium, 1.005 is medium-sweet and 1.010 is sweet. If you don’t have a hydrometer yet, just take a sip. Your wine will be young and sharp with no finesse whatsoever but you should be able to tell where it falls on that range. To sweeten between each step requires about 2 oz or 60g of sugar, so from dry to medium needs 4 oz, 120g. Boil the sugar in a minimal amount of water, allow to cool, add it to your wine and shake gently. Alternatively, I prefer to just sweeten from dry to medium-dry, and would add about 250ml of white grape juice."

Can someone tell me what WOW acronym means? Sorry for my ignorance.

It stands for Wurzels Orange Wine. Basically, a cheap and quick easy to make white wine, but you can substitute the juice for any juice to get different flavors. I highly recommend them.
