Yeast...leave it or stir it?

Yeast needs oxygen initially. You are best off splashing or stirring (or both) the wort into your fv. It wouldn't hurt to stir the yeast in, I personally don't. If you are going to stir, make sure your stirrer is well and truly sanitised.
 
Ive done both and they both work. If your wort is well aerated then you can spread the yeast on top and leave it. As MM says though, anything that touches you wort at this point must sanitised to the nth degree to avoid infection.
 
So my thermometer has to be sanitised too??? Its not at right temperature to add my yeast yet, I'm just waiting a bit.

I just sprinkle the yeast on the surface and leave it alone. If the yeast needs oxygen to start with then where would there be more oxygen than on the surface? I can't see that splashing the wort about would have much effect on oxygen levels in the brew.
