If you look at the likes of Flightradar24 you can see that most airline routes go up and over rather than straight across for both trans-Atlantic and trans- Pacific flights. They try to stay close to land so there is at least some chance of avoiding ditching at sea in case of a problem. Not surprising that a flight from L.A made an emergency landing in Alaska since it was already on the flight path.

I'm with that bloke Schroedinger with his cat - the earth is both spherical and flat at the same time.
I know I don't take the curvature of the earth into account when I pop up to the village for some fish and chips But I hope the pilot does when I'm off on me holidays.

Four problems with the above:
The cubes are the same size when the same mass of the less dense material would be proportionally larger.
Wood doesn't float on water, only some woods float. Ebony, Ironwood and some rosewoods don't float because they are denser than water but not as dense as flat-earthers
If it were not for gravity, the water itself would be floating and wouldn't have things floating in it regardless of their density.
They appeal to relative density to debunk gravity, but relative density is often referred to as specific gravity!

Depends what you mean by straight across.

Have you got a globe ? I'll try and take a picture if you haven't.

If you are flying from Heathrow to San Francisco the straightest and shortest (and therefore fuel efficient) route is over the southern tip of Greenland. On a map it looks like the flight path loops up and down but it doesn't. A flight path that went straight according to a map would bend down and back up.

Obviously all bets are off for a flat earth :laugh8:

So people are sad because the earth is flat but its a secret.
What difference would it make if the earth was flat?
What are the "benefits" in telling the world they live on a pancake and not a sphere?
Who gives a flying fxxx?

Flat earther - "NASA skew peoples views of what the real world is like"

"Why dont NASA just tell us its flat"

Flat earther - "Because they dont want us to wake up and realise what life is really like"

Interesting. When asked if the earth is flat he pauses and says "in my opinion it is flat". Not "yes", or "the earth is flat", "in my opinion". He knows it isn't. Can't say the same for the older bloke.

They're hiding the existence of God, We're in the matrix and if we're in the matrix then the world you see, touch, taste, smell doesn't exist anywhere but in your head.
