    Tapatalk for Windows 8

Well I've just found that there is a Windows 8 version of Tapatalk available in the Windows App Store. I knew they were working on one and that its been available for Win 8 RT but I didn't know they had released a full Windows 8 version. Anyway, it works fine on my laptop running Win 8.1...

    NTC probes

The controller I'm using has one and its stated as NTC B=3380 10k @25degrees Celsius It would be useful for me to get one that could be mounted and I'm looking at this which quotes Parameters: R25 ℃ = 10K B25/50 ℃ = 3950K Are they all the same? The 10K @ 25°C seems common to them all so...

    HLT Controller

Well having seen the BCY07H temperature controllers on Ebay I decided to take the plunge and try one as an HLT controller. 1st thing to say is that its limited to 95°C so won't do a boiler. It arrived a few days ago (I paid £14.58) My first thought was that it would mount into a pattress...

    PID advice

Decided that I need to have a control method for my HLT. Is this what I need to order http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191026251076?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Do I need a heat sink for the SSR? Are there better sensors? I'm not adversed to spending out a little extra...

    A programmer goes shopping

A computer programmer's wife says to him "Go to the shop and get a loaf of bread, if they have eggs get a dozen" 20 minutes later the programmer walks back in with 12 loaves of bread.

    Council incompetance

Had fun and games today, not! The main road at the end of our road is to be closed for resurfacing from 7pm to 7am for a week, there have been signs out for a while. However the Council decided that the work should start on Sunday morning so the road is now closed no access other than a...

    Kegwatch

Many of you know I'm an estate agent. Well currently I'm marketing a pub which the bank repossessed about 4 years ago; having lent way too much money a few years before they tried to sell then but at too high a price and wouldn't bring it down so we ended finding them a tenant instead...

    Australian/New Zealand beer styles?

OK so there are:- English bitters, IPAs, browns, milds porters etc. American Pales, IPAs, Browns and so on Belgian Triples, Doubles and many others... But with some interesting "new world" hops about are there Craft beer styles for that region and if so what are they?

25L fermenter too tall for your brew fridge? Then try a 33L!

Discovered something unexpected so I thought I would share it. Youngs 25L buckets are a bit on the tight side for height in my brew fridge, but I have found that their 33L buckets are significantly shorter but obviously have a bigger diameter. I did have to cut a shelf from the fridge door...

    Caramalt

The LHBS has decided to stock a wider range of grain and has just got Caramalt in with more interesting malts to follow. I've picked up 500g to have a play would you just use in place of crystal and what kind of flavour profile would it give? I'm thinking of an easy drinker session ale maybe...

    Temperature and dry hopping.

Does the temperature of the wort make any difference to dry hopping? I'm dry hopping at present but would like to crash cool for a few days too will that affect the dry hopping at all?

How to produce lower ABV but just as tasty beers?

I'd like to have a try at brewing some lower ABV beers with decent body and flavour. So far I think that the best way of doing that would be to use some different malts that crystal, which has been my mainstay so far, to add the body such as caramalt and also mash at a higher temperature say...

    Bengal Lancer

Having checked my local super markets without luck I managed to fine it when I popped into Bath today, so I shall be drinking and culturing some of fullers yeast soon :) As an IPA is it considered a good example? I've not tried many and those that I have didn't seem to fit with my understanding...

    Health food shop finds

I was in town so popped into the local health food shop to see if they had and useful grains and picked up some toasted malted wheat flakes and toasted oats. The oats have a little added honey but the wheat flakes are just that. Even with a little honey the oats should be good and I suspect...

    HERMS and sparging

If you have a HERMS system is there a need to sparge if you can fit all your brewing liquor in the MT? My thinking is that while a looser grist ratio will produce a slightly dryer beer BIAB does it without significant problems. By recirculating the wort you are in effect rinsing the grain and...
