    AG#1 49er Clone

I bought the same Buffalo for BIAB last year, & have AGs 6 & 7 in fermenters now... It's a great bit of kit, been meaning to mod it with a hop filter, but very usable as is - I'm still using hop socks for now. You'll probably be okay with two of you, but if you're ever brewing alone, some method...

Effect of fluctuating temperature on fermentation

I also did this for a saison using a 75w Hidom heater from Amazon, & bendy tub... I was trying to ramp up to 28 degrees, managed to hold 26.5 in the water bath, but the thermostat kept kicking in before it got any higher. Added a small aquarium pump to get the heated water circulating away from...

    need an easy belgium recipe

Thanks for the advice, I have a stir plate, so no worries there... the 3787 sounds great, I've never had Westmalle's Tripel - Karmeliet is my favourite - though the Westmalle Dubbel is sublime. I've never stepped up a starter (1l starters are all I've done so far) but definitely sounds doable! I...

    need an easy belgium recipe

This is Wild Beer Co's Epic Saison grain bill... Lager malt 4kg Cara Gold 600g Wheat Malt 250g Brown malt 150g I probably overdid the aroma hops on my take on this - too much Motueka in an aroma steep & then dry hop - but it's mellowed really nicely after six weeks in the bottle, and is now...

Is it worth getting a bottle tree/rinser

Another vote for the tree / rinser, makes everything effortless... I have limited space in my kitchen, so the first time I tried to sterilise 40 bottles in the sink without the tree was a nightmare. I rinse out twice after drinking to get rid of any yeasty gunk, leave to dry before storing...

An occasional brewery (a question about licensing)

Ah no worries Gav, cheers for the info! Still looks well worth checking out if I'm ever down that way

Yeast starters and pitching rates for a hefe

Thanks Mike, I did wonder about that myself! The starter looks good & healthy, so I'm not going to worry about it :thumb:

Yeast starters and pitching rates for a hefe

So, looking at your temps & timings, & using Beersmith: Mash in with 10l @ 55 degrees for 40 mins Add 10l at 75.2 to get to 64 degrees for 20 mins Add 15l at 81.5 to get to 71 for 40 mins No mash out I'm not sure I have enough pans! I've done a sparge step my last couple of brews to oncrease...

Yeast starters and pitching rates for a hefe

Thanks Pittsy, hopefully the 1l starter should be good to go by tonight then! I don't have the abitity the properly chill unfortunately (no brew fridge) but 15 > 20 sounds doable, house is about 19-20 degrees & can chuck it in a cold water bath if it gets too hot. I'm just heating water now...

Yeast starters and pitching rates for a hefe

Thanks to you both, will pitch the starter and not worry too much about it then... now just hope I won't now be reducing the amount of delicious banana / clove flavours by over-pitching

AG#4 - BIAB SMaSH Maris Otter / Galaxy pale ale

Haha do it Jim! You'll be pleased to hear I'm not letting this one hang around, employing the assistance of some very 'understanding' friends this weekend to help me get through some more of it

Yeast starters and pitching rates for a hefe

Hi all, I was planning on making Pittsy's hefe this Saturday, and am just making a 1l starter with 100g DME. The yeast (a WLP380) is dated best before 10 April 2014, so bottled a litle over 3 months ago... giving it a viability of 26%, according to Mr Malty. I'm pretty new to this whole starter...

AG#4 - BIAB SMaSH Maris Otter / Galaxy pale ale

Started drinking it this week... Absolutely fantastic, I think this has now taken the Crown from Citra as my favourite hop. Still only 11 days in the keg, but can't see it lasting too long, goes down a little too easily!

    Which Boiler to Buy?

I've recently moved onto a 40l Buffalo and AG BIAB, but prior to this was using a 19l eBay stockpot for extract brews... I forget how much it was, but under £20. Method was very similar to Pjam - steeped grains, half volume boils, cooled in the bath, & topping up water in FV. Biggest issue I...

AG#4 - BIAB SMaSH Maris Otter / Galaxy pale ale

Excellent, that's all he justification I need to get stuck into the keg as soon as I get home, thanks Jim :D

AG#4 - BIAB SMaSH Maris Otter / Galaxy pale ale

Dry hopped with what I had left for 7 days, & just kegged tonight after 15 days in primary... 23l at 5.1%, & the hops is coming through really strongly... definitely a great hop, lots of tropical & citrussy goodness, I can see why people recommend it! I think this is going to be a hard one to...

    1085 to 1020 in 48 hrs?!?

Thanks guys, fingers crossed it'll still turn out okay... have had the FV raise by a couple of degrees above ambient before, but never this much... should have figured out that more fermentables & yeast in the same space = more heat though! For my next high gravity brew, it'll be into the water...
