Many thanks to those putting in the time and.the effort to sort this out. I'm looking forward to some judging and will probably only enter a couple of catergories myself but really glad to be a part of it! ☺

I've come up with a draft schedule:

Oct-16 IPA - DoctorMick
Nov-16 Pale Ale
Dec-16 Wheat Beer - strange-steve
Jan-17 Stout/Porter - peteplus1
Feb-17 Double IPA - jceg316
Mar-17 Belgian Ale
Apr-17 Bitter
May-17 Mild
Jun-17 Saison
Jul-17 Lager
Aug-17 Imperial Stout
Sep-17 Brown Ale
Oct-17 IPA
Nov-17 Barleywine
Dec-17 Lambic/Sour
Jan-18 Stout/Porter
Feb-18 Scottish Ale
Mar-18
Apr-18 Bitter
May-18
Jun-18
Jul-18 Lager
Aug-18
Sep-18

The idea is that IPA, Stout/Porter, bitter and lager are regular categories, repeated each year, as I thought they'd be the most popular. Other than that everything is up for grabs for one offs, I filled in the first year using the BJCP style guide but I'm completely open to suggestions.

If nobody has any objections we can go ahead with the inaugural competition being in October (entries to be submitted by the end of that month) and I'll sort out judging (it is merely coincidence that the first category is my favorite beer type!).

It would be great if people could volunteer to:

- Create a template judging sheet
- Create a template entry form
- Create a template feedback form (I'm not convinced sharing the judges scores would always be constructive)
- Create a competition sub forum on here (@MyQul :))
- Create a fairly broad definition for one or more of the monthly categories
- Offer to judge one of the forthcoming categories/months

Once we've got sub forum we can create some stickys for:

- Competition calendar
- Entry form
- Entry rules (such as number of bottles to be submitted and when etc but nothing too strict)

Obviously there will be a lot of fine details to iron out so the more input we can get here the better. We can refine things as we go and as we learn from each competition.

Oh, and it's looking good for a sponsored prize too! :thumb:

I'll discuss the possiblity of a sub forum with the mod team. We'll probably need to run it by the forum owner as he's quite keen on having a, as streamlined forum as possible and prefers not to have too many forum sections/sub forums/etc

Edit: I notice Chippy is on top of this and has created threads in the competion and bottles swap thread.

I notice the light lager category is in july. Perhaps it might be better to do that category in winter as some people may not have a brew fridge and want enter by fermentig cool (or pseudo lager) in a cold part of their home/shed/garage/etc rather than using a brew fridge. I for example will only be making pseudo lagers in winter because during the summer it takes twice as much ice to lower the temps in my brew bag than it does during winter

Good thinking, I'll switch things around.

Done!

I'd still like to see an Experimental category sneak into the calendar, just because I think it would be funny!!!

I am all for this, it could be a month classed as wild card beers where any beer could be judged, so if anyone one makes say fruit or pumpkin ales or other such beers they they could be judged during the wild card month

In the competition template sticky I've added a label template which can be printed and filled in, for those who don't usually label their bottles.

I'm planning my pale ale for October. Got a load of American hops and don't know what to do with them...

Does anyone have any objection to allowing a couple of entries per person? As it's mostly for feedback I don't have a problem with the same person submitting more than one beer if they're happy to pay the postage.

I'm happy for people to submit multiple beers, but maybe say only one can enter? Participants can state which one they want to enter in the competition or let the judge decide.

The reason for this is so one person doesn't hog the competition. If we have first, second and third place, it might be frustrating to some if one person takes all the spots.

On the other hand though, it would be pretty awesome if someone does manage to get 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I'll update the rules once we've come to a decision.

Might be worth saying only one winner per entrant and the highest scoring brew is automatically selected.

I'd be interested in knowing further details (which I believe would only be available once a representative number of volunteers is obtained). So, for the time being, please count me in. Cheers!
