I've just kicked off my first kit for years - mangrove Jack pale ale.
I've not pitched the yeast yet as the thermometer is showing 29. Can I just pop the lid on and leave it for the afternoon to cool? Instructions say add at 25.
I'll know next time to have some water ready in the fridge!
 
Leave it for a while to cool, I used to sometimes stick mine outside as long as the lid has a tight fit or use sterilised cling film. Give it a shake before ptching the yeast to get some air in. athumb..

Yes. Its best to leave it to cool in the coldest place you have.
And if you pitch it at 25*C keep it in that cold place until it gets to fermenting temperature which is normally about 19/20*C
 
I would put it in the bath and fill with cold water. Tap temp is around 19C this time of year, should bring it down.
 
All good advice do not pitch at too a high temp as it can produce esters/off flavours from the yeast, Put it in a garage or cool place to drop the temp or water bath or wet cold towels over the top of the FV

I've popped it in the garage with a bag tied around the tap and about a foot off the floor on an upturned flower pot!
I'll check on it later this afternoon, give it a good stir up then pitch. I'll leave it there for a few days and see how the temp goes - likely better there than in the house anyway.

Most yeasts survive higher temps, but add tastes to the brew that might not fade away.
You could drape a wet towel around the bucket, cools a bit faster.
 
Brew fridge or wort chiller. Wort chiller might work with temps as they are now but forget it if we are having a heat wave, you would get more results watching paint dry and that does not cost water ;)
