    Impromtu Slovenian brew

Bottled this today. Batch primed 7g/L dextrose, split in 2 and added a hop tea to each made with 7g either styrian or savinjski goldings. Got 9 bottles of each and 1 made up from a mix of the 2. Now to wait.

    Impromtu Slovenian brew

Just took a reading and the trial jar tastes amazing! Might do a few bottles without any aroma hop it's that good. I'm still dipping my toe in ag so I'm easily impressed but I think I could drink half of this straight from the fermenter tonight and enjoy it more than some kits I've done!

    French beers

Belle plagne so we could go up to the glacier or down to plagne bellecote. Was a good spot as it's quite central.

    French beers

Fair play it's a cracking resort and the price of beer kept us out of bed and on the slopes so wasn't all bad!

    French beers

Sorry forgot about this, had a lot going on lately. Most places seemed to just do a few standard lagers and maybe a couple of Belgian ales. Between this and french ski resort prices I didn't really sample anything too interesting!

    priming a stout

Just noticed you mentioned you haven't got any scales. Bearing in mind normal kitchen scales would do the trick for this? Basically you've got 3 options without scales: stick 1/2 teaspoon in each bottle, measure out 20 teaspoons and dissolve in water to batch prime or get 2 identical...

    priming a stout

Assuming you've made the kit to ~23L I'd go with 80g dextrose total to batch prime a stout. I weigh it into a big mug and chuck on as much boiling water as it needs to dissolve. Stick it in your bottling bucket and rack the beer on top to mix.

    Covrich Brew day thread

I tried my cardinal brew last night and it's a lovely hop. I just went single hop with mo and a little bit of carapils so a simpler version of what you've got going on here. Should turn out well.

Brew weekend- Slovenian single hop ales

Not obviously, I got a general mixed fruit taste and aroma from it. I'll see if I can pick up anything next bottle I have. My last brew was bittered with styrian wolf and the smell was amazing when I chucked it in the boil. Can imagine the two combined coming out nicely.

Brew weekend- Slovenian single hop ales

Tried a bottle of the styrian cardinal last night and it was cracking. Lovely mixed fruit taste so I think the dry hop was a good call. Reminded me of shipyard pale ale they sell in wetherspoons. Think this hop would suit American style pale ales and ipa's.

    Impromtu Slovenian brew

Yup screwed up my sparge volumes so ended up doing a 90min boil to concentrate it a bit. As there's no aroma hops and the ibu's were pretty low anyway I can't see it being a problem. Will end up with beer some how, all part of the learning curve. Ended up with 11L of 1.04 wort so it's all good.

    Impromtu Slovenian brew

Forgot to add the styrian wolf hops smell amazing. I'm not usually a fan of the smell of hops but as soon as I added these to the boil I got a lovely mouth-watering fruity smell. Was delicious. Think I'll make a single hop ale with some of these once I've tried all the other varieties.

    Impromtu Slovenian brew

Had an unexpected free day so got down the lhbs and have now got a brew on the boil using some more Slovenian hops I won from Get'er brewed. Was aiming for a pseudo pilsner type but missed as the shop only had pale malt. Ah well. Final vol 9L(hopefully) Mash 1hr 65°C Grain 2.17kg pale...

    British Lager - A Rant

I found it didn't condition out with the bottles left in the cold for 3-6 months without anything done to them.

    British Lager - A Rant

Well won't hurt. Agree with your theory so worth a try. This was a muntons kit so I think it's due to under pitching, don't think it would have got too warm. I've had a slight bit of it in a bitter before and didn't mind it. Tasted the same in a pint of doom bar the other day actually, but it...

    British Lager - A Rant

Have you tried this? Does it work? I've got a pale kit brew that has got a really strong diacytyl taste that really doesn't suit the style (I'm going ag now anyway but brew years resolution, stop using crappy yeast). Going to try it with a couple of bottles regardless, won't make 'em worse.

Brew weekend- Slovenian single hop ales

Due to swmbo not following orders correctly (lol) I'm currently supping one of my styrian dana brews. Not cleared properly yet but it's lovely. Definitely drinkable already and much fresher tasting than a kit brew. Got a nice balance between the hops and the malt. Can't pick out much character...

    Hops from Get 'er Brewed

Same here, used 3 so far and will review on their site once I've tasted them in a few weeks. Haven't got time for any ag brews the next couple of weeks but got a pretty good idea for my next few little batches which will test out another 2 or 3 varieties. I'll get round to them all eventually!

    French beers

Thanks guys! Tried the lidl birre de garde on the weekend and really enjoyed that so I'll keep an eye out for some of those. I've tried meteor, it's an ok if unremarkable lager although I don't know if it's a brewery or just the name of that particular brew.
