    Nukatap dripping/leaking

Hey.. I've set up a new BrewFridge, using inkbird and a tube heater, and my first batch of cervesa is almost ready to fire into a Corny.. My Nukatap, last time it was used dripped/leaked into the old fridge. Checking it, I found it doesn't close fully, and have to shut the flow control valve...

When do I add syrups to a brew?

Well. Silly question time again.. I'm starting a Coopers Weis beer kit tonight as a 'quickie' to get some beer into one of my kegs. I've decided I'm going to add Lowicz Raspberry syrup as a flavouring. Do I chuck this in just before I add the yeast or do I wait and add it on kegging... Are...

    Wanted - XL Petling

Is anyone selling the petlings to fit the Cherry Philips 4.0 board? I'm struggling to find them in the UK, and don't want to order from Lithuania without a guarantee its the right size!

    Starsan issue when kegging?

Hey! I've kegged a cerveza after sanitising my corny with starsan solution. Unfortunately, after emptying I didn't rinse, and added my brew on top of the foam that was left.. I've force carbed, and the beer seems to be carbed up properly, but there's no head at all - is this an issue starsan...

Brewing with river water.. Good/bad idea

On a visit to Alston this weekend, I've noticed the river water is incredibly soft, but peaty. If I gathered some of this water, would it be an issue in an all grain beer, given it would be boiled for at least an hour? Has anyone tried this, and what flavour could I expect from the peaty...

    Re-use of hops!

You may not have seen this, seems an interesting read on reusing hops and I don't see why it couldn't work for pellet 'sludge' from a spider if used in a similar brew... https://beerandbrewing.com/elements-of-beer-recycling-hops-in-the-brewhouse/

    iSpindel - Argh.

Hi.. I've started building an iSpindel from a kit, and got as far as flashing the software. That seemed to go OK, but I couldn't find the configuration page via WiFi. When I've connected back to the flashing software I now have no MACs showing where I did beforehand.. Have I blown the board...

Free South Yorkshire - 60+ Clear Wine Bottles

As the title says, I have 60+ clear wine bottles if anyone wants to come and collect them from the Doncaster area. Mostly brand new and still boxed, I was given them by someone on this forum but haven't got round to using them due to work commitments.

    How long before bottling?

Possibly an unusual question.. Ive brewed an AG Doom Bar clone, which is currently sat in the FV on the yeast cake/trub in my brew fridge in the garage. It's already been sat for about 4 weeks after finishing fermentation, and I was hoping to bottle it in the next few days. I'm now off on a...

    Disaster!

I've gone to clean and sterilise the bottles from the garage - following advice on another thread and found that the flooding/high water table in South Yorkshire has caused the swing tops to go rusty even though the garage itself didn't flood. Ive stripped the swing tops from the bottles, and...

    Cleaning large numbers of bottles...

I'm planning on bottling 80 litres of various brews in the next day or so, and have a variety of swing top bottles I've aquired. Some are brand new, while some look to be pretty grim... Would soaking them in oxy cleaner for 30 minutes then blasting with starsan be adequate to ensure I didn't...

    Inkbird controlled mash

Has anyone used an inkbird to control mash temperature with a burco boiler? I suspect I could tape the temp probe to the outside of the boiler, set the mash temp then won't need to worry about the actual controls. Is this feasible, or am I just a lazy idiot!

    Sanitising burco/grain bags

Hey I'm hopefully going to try an AG in a burco I've aquired recently. Do I need to sanitise the boiler before use as well as the grain bag, or does the fact that I'll be boiling the wort in the boiler cover that? How does anyone else cover this? And do you drain the wort through the burco...

    Swing top bottle sanitising...

Hey all Probably a stupid question, but I constantly second guess myself. I've a mix of used and new swing top bottles. What's the best way to clean and sanitise? Do I remove the wire and stopper before sanitising and boil them separately to sanitise to prevent any Ill effects on the wire and...

Yeast and crushed malt - nothing else!

Hi. I'm at a loss this morning for something to do, and have 1kg of crushed malt and some gervin ale yeast. What results could I expect from mashing/boiling the malt then fermenting with the yeast? Would the lack of any hop addition during the boil result in something undrinkable, or is it...

    Hydrometer vs Refractometer

Hey.. Ive just aquired a refractometer and calibrated it using distilled water. When I've checked my lager and pale ales that should be ready, both are showing SG of over 1.020. Checking with my hydrometer shows them at 1.008 and 1.012 respectively. Ive checked the hydrometer in room temp...

Coopers Lager issue - more yeast?

So, I started off a 15 year old coopers Lager kit, replacing the yeast provided with California common. The LME seemed good, if a little dark and it started to ferment quite well. Sg was 1.040, and fermentation appears to have stuck at 1.029. It did get cold in the garage - down to 12 degrees...

    Straining bags!

While in Sainsburys earlier today, I noticed they have some fine mesh nylon bags meant to be used as reusable fruit/veg bags. At 30p a pop, might be worth a look for straining large bits of fruit from wine/beer!

    Old Coopers Lager Kit

Hi Ive just been 'gifted' by a colleague at work an old Coopers Lager kit. With an expiry date of 2004! Am I right in thinking it 'should' be OK to use, if I swap out the yeast - given its older than some of my kids? At the very most if it went wrong I'd only be out a kilo of sugar and a...
