    Going for 1st BIAB

Scorching the bag is always a risk when heating up to do a mashout. To avoid it I have a hoist above the stockpot which holds the bag clear of the pan bottom with out exposing the grains above the surface of the liquid, works a treat. I do like to do a 90 minute mash then a 15 minute mash...

    Going for 1st BIAB

I can't recommend the Biabrewer.info website enough http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=194 use the biabacus spreadsheet for your recipe, looks daunting at first but really is easy to use.

    Quick question re BIAB

I doubt you would ever really know for sure until you did full volume and a small pot version using identical ingredients.

    Quick question re BIAB

Try reading post 4 of this link http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2558&p=36456&hilit=+sparging#p36456 and if possible read the "sweet liquor shop" posts. I found this extremely helpful and it saved me a whole lot of money not having to buy loads of equipment to make great beer.

    Quick question re BIAB

I find post 18 of this thread to be useful http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=1502&p=21567&hilit=washing+machine#p21567 Unless your pot size restricts you to maxi biab always try and use all of the liquid at the start and don't bother sparging.

    Muntons Range, good or bad?

Munton's are an excellent manufacturer, they package the majority of the canned kits on sale in the UK either under their own name or under licence. Black Rock, Tom Caxton, Geordie, Milestone ,Woodfordes, Brewferm , St Peters, Wilkos own label and Young's own label to name but a few. Using...

Evil Dog American Double IPA and hops?

Just 1 to 2 days in the fv for me, don't use boiling water, let it cool for a few mins first, it can give grassy flavours to the hop pellets.

I steep mine in a cup of boiled water that I have left top cool to around 80 degrees for around 15 mins then add the liquid and the bags to the fv.

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

Quick update, the yeast has dropped now so I've just added the hop pellets in around half a litre of water at 80 degree. I let them steep for around half an hour. I also tested the fg, unbelievably low 1.004! I can' t believe the measurement , I did wait for it to warm up to 20 from 17. I...

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

Quick update on the Evil Dog brew. It's now the 5th of December and no sign of it finishing fermentation. I was hoping to add the hop pellets today but when I took a peak the yeast still looks like it's working. I'll check again next week.

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

Just a quick update. Started the kit off but out of interest I tested the OG. I waited for the sample to get to room temp, 20 degrees. The OG came in at 1.070! I then double checked the hydrometer in water at the same temp and that was spot on at 1.000. I'm not sure what the yeast is but if...

    Bulldog, Evil Dog Double IPA

I managed to pick up one of these kits today, a bit more expensive than the usual 2 can kits, £24.95. But to be honest looking at the contents I think it's worth it. The kit contains 4.7 kilos of extract. A mixture of malt and invert sugar, the mix isn't specified. As well as the big...

    Bulldogs triple tykes

I made one of of these when they were first launched. It's turned out to be a great bitter, much better than the wherry I made. I added the aroma hop pellets after 5 days in fermentor, then left for a further 8 days before bottling. I then conditioned for a further 4 weeks. It has good...
