Wilko's 6 bottle Cab Sauv: A 'newbie' needs a lot of help!

I did the thirty bottle kit & like yours mine was very light in colour & drinkable but not exactly moreish. If I do another Wilkos kit I will use a lot less water, add a strong cup of stewed tea & maybe some pepper. Mine took ages to ferment too which ****** me right off. I felt like writing a...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

Thanks for replying S2N. Yeah its tropical & I did use nutrient (Wilkos). I boiled it with the sugar for more than ten minutes too & made sure it was room temp before sending in the troops. The temp in my brew cupboard was spot on 18°C. The Gervin universal wine yeast has never let me down...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

I have done this & everything went as planned but the punch was lacking. In fact it wasn't even so much as a slap. It was drinkable alright but weak & insipid so I put another one on using a kilo of sugar to try & up the ABV & I reckon its stuck 'cos only last week it was bubbling at 60bpm now...

White wine - made with supermarket grapes

Nice one! My local Asda is always getting shot of cheap fruit so I might do this meself. I got four small punnets of blueberries last week for 15p each but my pimpin' biatch ate ALL of 'em before I could find an empty 'john... I might change the apple juice for white grape though but.

    Stabilising Wilkos Cabernet Sauvignon

:D I thought you were gonna say 'you are what you drink & I'm (me) a bitter man'. Anyway, its done. Wine's fined. Hopefully it'll turn out alright but after the week I've had I'm past caring. If it tastes like a tramps urine sample I can always try drowning meself in it...

    Stabilising Wilkos Cabernet Sauvignon

Thanks Chippy I will. Dunno about us though 'cos it looks like its only you & me on this one. Twenty five souls viewed the post but you're the only dude who bothered to offer up any advice despite me bumping it. Maybe everyone else is down the pub?

    Sweetening TC?

I sweetened mine up just by adding 45 grams of sugar per gallon but that was because I wanted some fizz. Ain't tried artificial sweeteners aside from a few sachets nicked from McDs & bunged in a pint glass. It works but I hate dicking around when imbibing...

    Stabilising Wilkos Cabernet Sauvignon

Hello gents, I've been busy so no time for chat but most of my brews that I started in early May have finished fermenting. So far I have three types of Lowicz syrup wines, two Robinsons no added sugar punches, one park bench turbo cider & a thirty bottle Cab Sauv kit. I drank my two other TCs -...

    Vinyl players

Two Gemini PT2100s plus one PT2400 for spares. They're basically 'Happy Shopper' 1210s & I use 'em for gigging. Got a sh*tload of vinyl - mostly Soul, Funk, Reggae, Latin, Rhythm & Blues & Punk with the obligatory '60s stuff like Floyd, Jimi, Creedence etc. I'd love an expensive deck but most of...

    hello from a newbie

Hello to you from another newbie. Like you I did a few brews back in days past & got reaquainted recently but I still use a few Wilkos kits 'cos they're cheap & reliable if not top quality. Aside from them & the occasional trip to the pub I can honestly say that this site has saved me a small...

    Wilko Cider Kits Half Price!!!

Ain't doing it in east London. Both Stratford & Walthamstow are still full knacker. Tight fisted b**tards!

    Banana & Blueberry

Banana & prune? Bananas bind me up but prunes give me the squits big time. My poor ringer wouldn't know whether to chew or whistle dixie. Interesting flavours though but...

    Cleaning demijohns

Cool! That is how we used to get rust off the inside of motorbike petrol tanks but we used nuts & bolts & a bit of diesel...

    Half gallon?

Freecycle rocks! Every bit of kit I own came from there or my local Sue Ryder charity shop aside from my Fullers keg I got from my local & my consumerbles which come from either Wilkos or Asda. Home brewing stuff is like fitness equipment - its a fad which people do for a while then get bored...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

Yeah, I use it along with the cheapo Gervin packet wine yeast & so far nothing has stuck or refused to kick off.

    Prosecco!!

After reading this thread I decided to experiment with a TC type hooch that I already knocked up from some Asda pineapple & coconut juice. The hooch was seriously rank & nothing like the pina colada I had hoped for. So I racked the lot into a five litre plastic water bottle & poured in a shed...
