Bar prices

The topic on good places to drink in London got me wondering what some of them might charge, but I didn't want to hijack.

My local (Marston's chain pub) usually has a choice of 4-5 ales at £2.60 to £2.80 a pint. We went there for a meal a couple of nights back (food's ok, averages around £6 for a main course on two-for-one) and my son asked for a pint of Kronenbourg. Three pounds thirty!

£2.80 for Ringwood Forty-niner but £3.30 for K1664 ? :wha:

I flatly refuse to pay more than three quid a pint, I'll go somewhere else or stay at home and drink my own.


Where are you and what are bar prices like?

The mrs and i went to a birthday party at the Mount Hotel in Tettenhall in Wolverhampton 2 weeks ago , ok posh etc but when i ordered a pint of what they had Peroni (or however its spelt) it was £4.20 , well i did get 1 after that we bought wine by the bottle that was still £15 but worked out cheaper , you can guess i won't be drinking there again

I paid £5.95 for a pint of Punk IPA in Chester last night. Twice.

Prices are between 2.60 to 3.20 in Wrexham at the moment.

I live in Falmouth in Cornwall and depending where you it range between £2 (Wetherspoons) to £3.50 for normal ales on tap. We also have some more special bars where you can pay easily £5 or more for a pint or bottle of some fancy international beer.

I live in a village in Essex, it's 7 stops from Liverpool Street on the train so it's a bit of a commuter village. My local charges real ale at £3.40 a pint. I think that's way over priced myself. Guinness is £3.60. I've paid less in London.

Popped into the local "cool" bar with a few friends. round of drinks, Pint of Theakstons xxb, glass of dry white wine and 2 small bottles of "euro fizz"....£16.50. No wonder there are no drunks shouting at busses here in Dronfield

Beer prices vary round here from £2.00 a pint to £2.90 a pint. I'm not a larger drinker as a rule so can't comment on those.

We like to vary our drinking establishments and can tell those who are tied to the big groups.

I was paying £3.60 in Watford for a pint of 4.5% Barnsey from Bath Ales last week.

I'm not keen on paying over the odds for beer but as we go to the pub to socialise with our mates we have to pay the price.

me and the wife stayed at a hotel on monday night in west auckland, county durham. was a gift for my birthday.
they had black sheep bitter so i tried a few of them. £3.50 a pint. thats the most ive ever paid for a pint.
must say it was well kept though.
prices put me off going out now.

Average bar price £2.80 round here, but yesterday was £1.69 in JDW..

Live in a small village on the outskirts of Leeds with 1 Sam smiths pub. £1.80 a pint for cask ale. Was used to paying £3.50+ in Leeds before moving here!

My local has Thwaites Original at £2.70 a pint, which is probably the steepest around Morecambe, but it's 5 doors from my house so I pay for the convenience. Plus Peter the landlord keeps an excellent pint and allows me to come in with my 14 month old son (who I hasten to add doesn't drink!).

My folks live in a village in Sussex near Gatwick airport and their local has Harvey's Sussex ale and normally a choice of two others, selling the Harvey's for £3.30 a pint.

Local chain pubs are 2 quid to 2.40 (wetherspoons, smith and jones etc) for an ale, often a little more for the strong xmas stuff. Ember Inns are up to three quid but a good range and free tasters, whatever the other local chain is charge even more and i've had a sour pint (and an arguement about it) from them! Apparently because "nobody else has complained" that solves the issue that is tastes like a pint of vinegar...micropub about 4 miles away are a little expensive but only just over three quid usually.


Amazingly our nearest country pub charge £4.40 for a pint of Peroni. The bird behind the bar told me it was because it's "premium lager" to which I replied "there's no such thing." At least not in our pubs. :rofl:

Down here in Kent in the village(town?) where I live, there are 10 pubs - mostly thriving.

Cheapest pint of bitter is at the Greed King place, but there's my local, free house, buying casks at brewery prices selling pints for £3.35!!!!!!

I'm sure that there's a bloody cartel running here.

Round my part of Hants / West Sussex I now almost expect to pay £3.50 for a middle of the road ale.. got charged £3.65 for London Pride the other day.. :shock:

Prices arent much better in Glasgow. To get a good pint of ale I am expecting to pay £3.50-£4.00 depending on where i go. But if your are in the city the best place to go is the West Brewery. Great pints (superb Dunkel) and for about £3.20 i think.

Local brewery beer in the nearest freehouse is £2.80 I think. Mon-Thur early evening happy hour from 5pm beer is 50p cheaper. Then there's a pub a 5min walk away that charges 50p more for the same beer, but I think he has to order it through SIBA being Enterprise/Punch or similar and isn't allowed to deal with the brewery directly.

A mate of mine told me last night that he was charged £4 a pint for the first time (in a normal pub) recently. :shock:

EDIT: Oh, and it was a pint of Courage Best, too.

£3.50 or more appears to be the norm around here now.

Around £3 a pint for real ale here in Worcestershire ,about the same in various pubs we tried in Pembrokeshire whilst we were on holiday last week.
