Hi, new on here but long time beer kit brewer, although I would love to buy a 20l+ burco boiler and go biab... I also do wine also and have Chardonnay and Bacchus vines.

Was given a barrel by a family member and finally got round to using it. Was intending to pour in the latest batch of beer when i noticed that the lip was out of true and the top where the cap fits there was a difference in height. it looks as if it was poorly cast or just rough molded and then never finished. I`ve cut it down to where it looks as if it should finish then sanded and sanded and sanded till it looks pretty true (glass sheet trick). There are some minor sanding marks to the face but it seems to now be holding pressure. I`m thinking (belt and braces) of getting another rubber washer like fits inside the cap and using some form of sealant to ensure there is as little possibility for loss as I can make it.

Any thoughts any idea what to finish/ seal the top face of the barrel with?
