Brewdog in trouble again

Money talks in business. The more you earn, the more you want to keep earning.

If you start your business with your core values by 'stickin it to the man'....and change them to become part of the machine, it doesn't help your original supporters feel any love. But the machine reaches more and more people. And you grow bigger and bigger. And further and further away from your core values.

Very interesting point on the profit share scheme, was curious how they'd get away with minimising the cost on that.

With regards to the share scheme, as above I was stupid enough to put money into their equity for punks scheme, in roughly 3 years they're now worth less than 40% of their original value and without floating they're not really shares. Plus the fact that like other corporates I'd assume that the shares will be a rolling scheme where it's essentially linked to loyalty, which I can't imagine is particularly high in the hospitality industry right now, basically saying we're going to underpay you but if you stay for 18 more months your shares will come to fruition.

I'm doing the scottish brewdog 500 next month where they will no doubt get £500 of my money. - 2 nights in the kennels and a brewdog in durham, Aberdeen , possibly a visit to ellon. Dundee on the way back. For all their faults thesedays they still beat the pants off greene king , marsdon fullers etc... apart from the Head of steam I'd say they are the premium craft beer chain.

Went to Bath November 2022 and tried a local microbrewery and the bath ales place at the stain station and quickly decamped to brewdog to escape the **** beer that bath offered. There is a great bottle shop but the pubs IMO are pants in Bath in general. Bristol on the other (left) hand, well i'd not end up in Brewdog, the same as Leeds when I was there on a 5 day training course there was so much choice I never got to brewdog.

Is this just something you’ve sorted on your own or is it some sort of event?

But you guys get a payout if they float, don't you? Or do they screw you over on that as well?

It's been an age since they were looking to IPO, they sent out a share portal over a year ago to view your shares with all of the shares showing as £0.01 (not suggesting this is their actual value) but Comms have been minimal, I've accepted it's a glorified membership club and didn't put in an amount that's significant to me, but even the discount is hard to utilise with their steadily worsening beer and shady business practices.

The mrs wanted to do the scottish 500 but I re-purposed it a bit myself :laugh8: seeing as i'll be doing all the driving.

Any particular reason you’ve chosen Dundee? We are a “up and coming” city but apart from the V&A museum there’s not much here. Broughty Ferry a couple of miles east is really nice for a walk as well (and the Royal Arch is a good pub - at least 3 cask ales on and a couple of craft options; they also have the train times up on one of their TVs if you were to get the train down from Dundee)

Beer-wise, Brewdog is pretty much our only multi tap craft beer pub now - St Andrews Brewing hasn’t had any guest beers since COVID and only about 4 of their own on, and Dynamo was recently bought over and is going to be “restored to its former glory” according to the new owner (so a place for a pint of Tennants and a fight)

There are a few cask ale pubs, The Speedwell (also known as Mennie’s) on the Perth Rd is good, as is The Bank Bar on Union St and the aforementioned Royal Arch.

71 Brewery on Blackness Rd is worth a visit, their beers are decent and they have a pretty good tap room. Also Holy Goat Brewing - they don’t have set opening hours but “specialise” in mixed fermentation and barrel aged beers so definitely worth giving them a call to ask when you can pop by and buy a couple of bottles.

You're gonna have fun driving Aberdeen to Thurso. That's a good 5.5 (minimum) - 6 hours on very slow roads at times. Lots of roundabouts on the A96 and then Inverness to Thurso A9 is quite hilly and if you get caught behind a caravan, you'll be dragging. It's beautiful though!

It's even longer to go back Thurso to Dundee the next day. I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

Just the 13 to get through Elgin. But, you forgot the Nairn Lights. Folk from Blackpool come to see them.

Punk is still a decent beer, although it seems to be less impressive every time I drink it, and I don't think they have a core range of really good beers quite honestly, although they still have a few really good beers and still quite a lot of unusual stuff.

Doesn't Jute in Dundee have an OK selection of beers? And why miss out Edinburgh?
We'll be flying to Edinburgh and hopping across to glasgow as part 3 of our scottish exploration. last time we were in edinburgh brewdog werent even around. Vault city will be my first stop. We're planning to do the west coast part of the scottish 500 next year.

One of the guys from Holy Goat was involved in Vault Brewing’s beginnings.

Vault City are excellent. Their taproom at Haymarket is great, but absolutely tiny.

I see they've opened up a bar and restaurant in Portobello too.

Innis and Gunn Beer Kitchen occasionally do some interesting tap takeovers. Quite a good fridge too.
