Do not use star anise. I added a couple of broken pieces (not even full stars) to a two-gallon batch of spiced WOW. The flavour has completely drowned out the cinnamon and cloves that were in there, although in retrospect I should have used a lot more of both. It's not undrinkable, just too anise-flavoured to be really pleasant. It'll probably work well as a mixer though.
The spiced WOW I made contained 2L of OJ, 1 of RGJ, 1 of WGJ, which together produce a very attractive peach-coloured wine.
