Got given these two barrels!

Not really sure how to use them tbh. They are 5l capacity each.

Do I just put the beer in with the priming sugar and just let it carb up.

I think it is a pressure release valve.
If the rubber is loose then you need to replace it.
Give them a good clean with bleach (if you don't know their history) or oxi (if you do) and sanitize before use.

Essentially yes. 50-100g for beer for larger i use 200g to give it a bit of woomf!

Not sure about the valve on top too?

As hairy biker said it looks like a pressure relief valve. Give it a good clean an replace all seals that are old/worn.

How long does carbonation take? I'm on my second attempt at keeping due to first one not sealing. Bought a new top for it and don't want to have a repeat of before.

I've got to of them dated 1986 but the newer caps don't seal as they have flat washers were my old caps have round blue o rings . So worth checking if you get a good seal before using
