How long can you delay adding yeast?

A simple question really how long can you delay adding the yeast? I appreciate its normally after the wort and temperature are ready etc but just as I was about to add my yeast life took over and I find myself with wort that's two days old still waiting for its yeast. Is it still ok to add the yeast?

aslong as its been kept still, air tight, then it should be grand
