Thinking of making a nice lager from the Homebrew book.

States conditioning temperature of 3c.

My problem is my garage fridge can either do 2c or 4c.

It may not be an issue, however which way would work best colder or warmer?

I know it's probably a daft question but just want to get it right.

I think the vote will go to lower, some people lager below 0C, in fact do a bit of searching and you'll find a recent thread with pictures of people's frozen beer after they went that little bit too far. Could've been a coldcrash thread though, I can't recall.

I doubt whether your fridge measures temperature accurate to better than a degree either way anyway. There's always advice to get an Inkbird which will allow you fine control, but they're only accurate to 1C too so probably there's not much point really.

Oh and my vote. I started out lagering at 3C too, but it wasn't helping to clear my beer so I gradually over the course of half a dozen brews reduced it to -1C. Still no nearer, my lager comes out looking like pond water.
