Is it me , or has anybody else noticed that medium DME dissolves a lot better in water than light DME ? With the light you tend to get the big clumps that take a while to stir out, no such problem with medium. Only thing i can think of is that its coarser. Any other suggestions ?

Do a Brulosophy triangle test. Let's get some qualitative results!

I don't notice any difference tbh. But what I have noticed is that DME seems to disssolve better in cold water (rather than hot), something I seem to remember reading on here some time back. But there is a noticeable difference in the flavours between medium and light DME if you use them in quantity. Apart from the obvious darker colour medium DME definitely brings its own 'roasty' flavours to beer compared to light DME and so I have stopped using medium. If I want to add roasty flavour Ill do it via grain additions so I know whats gone in.

?? Dont understand ?? I just brew Beer :tinhat:

Cutting open a pouch, pouring contents into a bucket, stirring with a long plastic spoon, placing in a heat controlled fridge, chucking in dry hops, mouth syphoning into a pressure barrel, moving to a cold fridge and dropping in some dissolved gelatine is hardly brewing.
Now my uncle was a master brewer and started his apprenticeship at the age of 5. He would have to haul a 500kg bag of grains up the hill before school, make a fire, judge the heat till it was just right empty the grains into a huge pot big enough for his mam to fit in and stir till his little hands were red raw and tears ran down his face. Not to mention the arsing about he'd have to do with sparging and mashing and all that other nonsense.
I just brew!! Phah!! Where's your respect for the time served skills??
