London and South East Craft Brewing Competition – Sat 9th November 2013

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dust off your mash tun, shake the spiders out of your fermenter, buy some fresh ingredients and get brewing because the London and South East Craft Brewing Competition and Festival date has been set for 2013.

As always this will be a friendly competition followed by a festival session in the afternoon and entry is open to all abilities, so if you brewed it then enter it. You can enter kit beers, extract beers, or all grain beers. It’s up to you.

Don’t worry if you have just started brewing or if you think your brew is “average”. We can all be too self-critical about our beers. You will be able to compare your beer side-by-side with others and will receive judge’s feedback to help you improve your brewing. There will be plenty of people willing to discuss beer and brewing with.

When: Saturday 9th November 2013 (from 2pm, judging from 9am)

Where: 177 Kensal Road, Kilburn, Kensal Town, London W10 5BJ. http://goo.gl/maps/BuoMj

How to enter: http://londonandsoutheast.brewcompetition.com

Registration is now open. Please read the entry requirements and closing date information carefully. Registration and entry closes several days before the event (7am Mon 4th Nov 2013) to help us with the administration.

Good luck and I will look forward to seeing you there.

Yes Bob, Cumbria is a little far from Westbourne Park!

Godfrey, no worries, if you are near London and have time to join our group, just click on London Amateur brewers website and ask for access.

I'm not sure I will have time to brew something, but could squeeze in a Midlands Mild.

Did you know we had a "BETTER HALF" CATEGORY?

cATEGORY 34A. The Better Half -
This is supposed to be a fun way of letting your better half have a go at brewing with your assistance. Please read the notes.
This is an open style category for your better half, who puts up with your brewing and your beer mess.
He/She has the opportunity to show you how it's done in this open style category where She/he can have a go at brewing (with your assistance).
You may wish to perform an extract brew to save time on the brewing day.

The novice brewer is to be hands-on in the main parts of the brew day. These are the minimum steps to qualify for this category.
+ Beer style selection
+ Ingredients measurement
+ The mash (consider extract brewing to make it easier)
+ The boil
+ Pitching the yeast

The experienced brewer can act as the "assistant brewer" and may perform these steps for the Novice brewer.
+ Recipe design (based on what she/he wants to brew)
+ Heavy lifting
+ Cleaning and sterilising
+ Equipment preparation
+ Fermentation
+ Bottling/Kegging the finished beer
+ Health and Safety

SO ANYONE INTERESTED?
