Hi to everyone, I am new to this forum. I have retired and have resurrected my interest in home wine making.
Can anyone give me some advice. I have 5 gallons of white on now which is just about finished fermenting, checking the wine with an hydrometer it's about 8/9 percent.
How can I get this up to 12/13 percent.
Can I add some sugar and let it ferment or add some sugar and some more yeast.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Best wishes, Reggie

Welcome to be from.

How much sugar did you use?

What juice did you use?

What was the original reading and what is it now?

Hi, thanks for coming back.
It was a complete kit which did not require any sugar to be added.
I cannot remember what grape juice it was my wife threw the carton label.
Original reading was 1085 and now is 999, my hydrometer has a yellow band to say bottle.
From the readings would you know how to work out the alcohol level.

Best wishes, Reggie

based on the gravity change according to my calculations it should be about 11.3% if start-finish*1.31 is correct.

edit: brewers friend says 11.29% so I think my formula is good.

If you use the calculator tab at the top you will find a ABV calculator -

1.085 to .999 gives 11.29% if it is still fermenting get it go as far as it can and you should end up with 12% plus.

Thanks Tartan Special & choppy tea for you advice. Being new to this forum I didn't see the calculators.
I will let it go and suck it and see.

Thanks, best wishes, Reggie
