The show has been paused, they can make it permanent for me.

I stopped watching years ago when the show stopped being about normal cars and they let the "I want to be on telly" crowd in to laugh at every cliché that came out of presenters mouths.

Must admit after Clarkson's sacking it did seem like they were flogging a dead horse for quite a while.

However when Paddy, Freddie & Chris teamed up I heard rumours that it had improved so started watching it again. Thought it was pretty good really for a bit of light entertainment on a Sunday evening. Real shame about what happened to Freddie and even worse that the health and safety standards had slipped that badly. Unfortunately I don't think they really have any other option right now, put it to bed for a few years and then maybe it can come back in some sort of revised format. Made a lot of money in exports for the BBC too although the do still have franchises going in other countries.

It wont come back to the BBC. They've spent so long demonising cars they cant possibly have a show so frivolous as to feature cars...let alone people using cars for fun and entertainment!!

I was in the motortrade for years and stopped watching it when the BBC used licence fee payers money to let the 3 presenters smash and damage cars for fun in stupid races which had no resemblance to a car programme.
Thats why the BBC should have the licence fee taken away from them

I am the same. I sell suncream, stopped watching the weather when they let it rain all the time.

What was JC's TG if not a car programme....cars certainly featured significantly on it even during the 'stupid' races. Better than some old monotone duffer talking you though the fixtures and fittings on a 1973 Ford Escort poplar plus......🥱. What a shocker to realise that most people would rather see a Bugatti Veyron being hurled through Europe racing the TGV!! And from that piece I can still remember how many radiators a Bugatti Veyron has to keep the engine and gearbox cool, and how quickly it could empty its fuel tank if you ran it at full chat....not sure I can remember the detailed spec and equipment list from a 1973 Ford Escort Poplar Plus though.

Also JC was on the TG team for a while before he set up his own company and took the show stratospheric and netted nearly £2bn of which the BBC was perfectly happy in taking its fair share of (a third I think) so I don't think that the license fee has been squandered on Top Gear...until they bought JC out of his stake and ran the show into the ground.

Also when JC was on the TG presenting team with the old 'car programme' format before he took the reigns, he was responsible for significantly boosting the viewing figures and was a breath of fresh air for the ailing show that appealed mainly to the pipe smoking corduroy trousered brigade (pretty sure that is a JC comment from somewhere or other).

Some people love to hate JC...and that is exactly the secret of his success.

Its not really a shock that some car enthusiasts find watching a very expensive car racing another very expensive car through Europe entertaining but i wouldn't call it most, to be honest I couldn't give a rats **** if one ridiculously expensive car can beat another ridiculously expensive car in a standing 1/4 mile by a millisecond I also dont get the Veyron wankfest I think the thing is pig ugly and always have, maybe the old monotone duffer could talk about the year 1974 when we first clapped eyes on what for me was and still is one of the best looking supercar of all time, i would happily sit through that ;)
