Using treacle

Hi

Onto my 3rd extract brew. All much nicer than any of the kits I have done. I added a jar of dark treacle to the last one at the start of the boil and the initial results were very nice however, after a few weeks of maturing the nice hint of treacle has almost gone. Its still very drinkable but just wondered why this would happen, should i have added it later on in the boil or when cooling?

I always add ferementables like this near the end of the boil. But inevitably, their essence does fade given time.
