WOW Fining Problem

Hi Folks,

I have 5 gallons of WOW on the go. Left in the FV for 10 days then racked to another FV and threw in some vinclear finings. The ony problem is that I forgot to read the instructions on the packet which called for the powder to be mixed with half a cup of wine first and left for 15 minutes. :shock:

I gave the wine a good stir but now 2 days later, a lot of the finings seem to just be sitting at the top of the liquid in a sort of viscous layer.

Does this have the potential to ruin my wine? Is there any way to now skim off the finings or mix them in properly?

Hi shwinky,

I know Vinclear is available in sachets in a powder form but I have never used it and always buy mine as a liquid.

If you skim off anything that you can with a sterilised paddle and gently fold anything else in, I don't see how it can do any long-term damage, then try another packet (properly mixed) or some other brand.
