I used to do this kit a lot a few years ago and gave my next door neighbor a bottle (he used to run a pub) and I didn't tell him what it was and he said it was a nice pint close to a wherry.

Bonus. . . Hope mine is is good then. Going into pubs and paying a lot of money for a pint is not top of my list at the moment and I remembered how nice home brew tasted and how enjoyable it was to make. As promised an update about my first brew in quite a few years. Just bottled my Woodfordes Wherry and all going to plan. FG 1014 so I think it’s come out at 4.6. Used carbonation drops . . Never used them before as normally use sugar. Very slightly cloudy but already tastes good. Going to leave it alone until October so hopefully it will condition well over time and just get better. Planning on another brew now to keep a nice flow of beer but can’t decide on what to go for. I am a real ale drinker and not a lager or stout fan so any suggestions ?.

Did a Wherry myself as my first ever brew a couple of months back. Kegged rather than bottled. Been in cool(ish) conditioning for 6 weeks now, and it's great. You'll enjoy yours if you're leaving it until October. Got a Coopers Brew A IPA in bottles doing secondary right now, not sampled any yet. This weekend getting a Wilko Sweet Newkie Brown underway. Couple of ideas there, let us know what you go for and how the Wherry turns out?

Cheers for the info . . . The sweet Newkie Brown sounds good as I don’t mind a brown ale. Apparently Wilco kits are good so please let me know how you get on too. Looking forward to the Wherry but being good and leaving it alone that’s why I need another kit to do to take my mind off it. If yours is going good at 6 weeks I am in for a treat I hope.

2 weeks on Norfolk Broads made me a Woodforde's fan and I drank my first moored up in Acle and it was a Nelsons Revenge. Following day we went to Great Yarmouth where I searched for more NV but was offered "only" Wherry and I loved it.
Went to Fur and Feather when moored at Salhouse Broad and the Brewery Shop was excellent too
Returned to HB a few years ago and was a devout Wherry fan (hence the name) but then I tried both Nelsons Revenge and Admirals Reserve and I love both of them. At the moment I have 1 PB each of Wherry. Revenge and Reserve and 2 Reserves ready to "go" so I am probably advocating trying a Revenge and a Reserve next !
The Reserve is incredible and in our Friday night tastings my 2 co drinkers absolutely love the Reserve which is around 5.5% and tastes great.

Hi, I’ve just put a Wherry in my keg and Admirals Reserve in the FV . Done the Wherry before, one of my better ones! Anybody else who’s done the Reserve noticed on the instructions , box says add hops on day 4 and on sachet it says add PRIOR to yeast! I’m going to add on day 4

Thanks for the info. . . . .living in Great Yarmouth , well Gorleston to be exact gives me a good chance to sample a lot of Woodfordes ales and I do prefer Wherry. I did look at the Revenge for a possible and the Bure Gold too. Looks like you are a true Woodfordes fan. !!. So many to choose from but I am drawn to Woodfordes due to their reliability and consistency. Hmmm could be a Reserve or Revenge next then. I did look at Woodfordes Tinsel Toes for Xmas but I did see a poor review for it.

Please let me know how you find the Reserve . . . I am really tempted to have a punt at that one. Can’t wait for the Wherry to condition. It is crystal clear already in the bottle and the bottles have firmed up nicely. Not sure if I should have used glass instead of plastic but I don’t want to start a war on that subject. Years ago I always used a keg and was really pleased but went for bottles for easier storage for me. . . .the missus needed the cupboard back where I stored my kegs.Hi, I’ve just put a Wherry in my keg and Admirals Reserve in the FV . Yes we had a thread on that mismatch of instructions a few months back. Seems there was old stock out there. If you search you will probably find it and I think people decided it was a preference whether to hop early or after 4 days
Anyway I cracked my Wherry last night after 10 weeks in KK and it was superb. Really tasty and clear
Then I had a Pint of NR which again was superb and hasnt been touched for more than 3 weeks so in KK for same 10 weeks
Then I moved on (up) to ARes and that one has been in KK for exactly a month and again clear superb taste. Seems whichever you choose will be great with time

As promised I would let you know how the Woodfordes Wherry turned out. Just a few weeks in the bottle and I must say I am very impressed with the results. Good carbonation and close to the real thing. Maybe 2 drops instead of 1. Going to leave it as long as i can but to be honest I can’t see it lasting 3 months as predicted. What do you think. ??
