All grain kits

Hi,

I've done 5 all grain brews so far. I've just binned the remainder of my 1st attempt, as it turned out pretty nasty! but the others have turned out great.

These kits can be a bit pricey (especially when you add postage). Does anyone know of a reasonably priced supplier, or is it time that I put some effort in and ordered ingredients for recipes instead of kits???

This. Apart from my most recent order (where the grain and hop bills were very straightforward), I've found their great your own grain kits cheaper than buying everything separate and without any wastage. They are very much my go-to supplier!

I would be looking at the buying in bulk option, a full 25kg sack of Maris Otter is only ÃÂ£32 from the hopshop in Plymouth.

Personally I only ever ordered 1 kit when I first started back last year and since then everything else has been experimental with grains, hops,beer and bread yeast.
Looking around the forum,web and delving into books will give you a good starting point but it's up to you what you do next.
I have had a few cracking brews and some flops but have learned a great deal along the way in such a short time.Ã°Å¸ÂÂº

Worcester Hop Shop. AG kits for around 11/12 quid, brilliant, and a good intro into AG brewing.
Their grain prices are good too....

Maris Otter was less than 24 notes last time I looked. Hops are so cheap you can 'fill yer boots' and experiment to your heart's content. I luv WHS, and I don't mean the one that flogs biros and magazines an' stuff.

The malt miller now in swindon will send freshly crushed grain milled to spec, very reasonably and they have a good selection of hops n yeasts too. the delivery costs are soon swallowed up by the savings.

At ÃÂ£15.99 each they are one of the cheapest All Grain Kits I have seen.

There's free delivery on orders over ÃÂ£65 and for less value orders it's only ÃÂ£6.99 if the order weighs less than 30kg.

All the brews I've tried have been superb and their Marsh Mild is a particularly nice brew at this time of the year. :thumb:

I use http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/All-Grain-Mash-Kits-Craft-Brewing.html and they sold me some great stuff. I never tried the all grain kits though. I just went straight to a 25kg bag. In hind site I wish I'd thought for a second at how big it was going to be haha

I wish I was able to buy big bags of uncrushed malt. It'd be nice to mill my own but I have too many other equipment purchases on my lost before a mill. Maybe one day!

"A cheap mill will pay for itself after about four brews!" I told SWMBO ... :thumb:

Mine's nearly paid for itself already. A while back GEB sent me 8kg of uncrushed grain instead of crushed. I then told them and they sent me free re-placement crushed grain. So I had 8 quids worth of free grain (sitting under the bed doing nothing until I got my mill), so 8 quid off my 20 quid mill :mrgreen:

The photographs show how I mounted it and the last photograph shows the level to which it can mill grain after three passes. (The top example being what I use for mashing.)

As I already had the drill and an old scratched FV I found it to be a terrific bit of kit! :thumb:

BTW I have used it with the hand-crank and it's very effective!
