It's Carbon steel which does not have the strength or resistance of Stainless.Would be grand for dry storage but would not advise for fermenters due to pH of beer nor a HLT due to strength of steel.
 
You wouldn't want this metal (mild steel) coming into contact with your beer at any stage. Your beer will dissolve the iron, little by little, it'll turn black and taste very metallic. A rather painful death may result in worst case scenario. Check out "iron poisoning".

Also:
Unpleasant inky taste with levels as low as 0.05 ppm
Effect on haze and oxidation of tannins >1ppm
Weakens yeast >1pp
