    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

You can do either. I brewed short, and still put the full 100g of priming sugar in - over carbonation wasn't a problem.

Great - thanks for clearing that one up.

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

So the first post on this thread shows one 50gm packet of hops and one 25gm packet of hops in the pack. But my pack only has one 50gm packet. Have they changed the kit, or am I missing one packet of hops?

Didn't add sugar to Coopers Stout

I'm not sure what you have to lose - add it and see!

    Recommended 2 tin lager kit

Yes, the Coopers one can and the Wilkos one-can Pilsner & Cervesas seem to get good reviews. The Bulldog Hammer of Thor looked rather dark for a lager, at least in one of the photos here.

Looks like a good head to that beer - thanks for posting. I've got the kit ready to go later this week. Is it really that dark, or is it just the photo? It looks darker than I expected.

Wherry kit stopped fermenting after 3 days?

Most brews start vigorously, then calm down after a few days. Without a hydrometer it is hard to know how the brew is proceeding. This is particularly true of Wherrys, which have a reputation for stuck fermentations. My Wherry from a couple of months ago sounds very similar. It started...

Looks like a great colour - would love to see another photo once it's cleared a little. I definitely need to do this kit....

    fermentation slowed down too soon?

All sounds perfectly normal. It's so tempting to try and 'rush' early brews, or interfere too much. We've all done it, I suspect. I would suggest leaving the beer alone for a couple of weeks, and leave it to do its thing.

    Newb first brew

Personally, by the time you have sterilised the second FV, dissolved the sugar, etc I'm not convinced that siphoning into a second FV and batch priming is any quicker (or the beer any clearer) than bottling straight from the first FV.

A bit of a worry about my Wherry.

So, giving it a stir seems to have done the trick. I don't have an airlock (1) but the lid of the FV is bulging, so some CO2 is obviously being produced and (2) the gravity has dropped by 0.02 or so. Fingers crossed, but it looks like the brew us back on!

A bit of a worry about my Wherry.

Thanks Slid - your second suggestion could well be right. My wife broke my thermometer the day of the brew (don't ask!) so there was a bit of guesstimating on temp. That said, the first 3 days saw a vey strong fermentation with lots of obvious activity, so I'm not sure. I've given the FV a...

A bit of a worry about my Wherry.

My first Wherry has stuck - a reading of 1:18-ish for three days running (days 5-7 of the brew). I thought that (1) it's something that Woodfordes would have fixed by now and (2) not something that would have been a problem in summer temperatures. Anyway, I've given it a stir to see if that...

    Wilko

I noticed the same thing, but I assume it's seasonal. Lots of BBQs and Gardening equipment to squeeze in over summer, and prob a lull in homebrew due to the temperature. A few months ago they had homebrew on the 'prime' end of isle section in my local Wilkos, so it seems that they are still...

    Finings before secondary fermentation

Great - thanks for clarifying. P.s. Just had a pint after a long week at work. To anyone else it would be a mediocre beer, but to me - knowing that I'd made itself - it was the best damn pint in the world. That's why I love homebrew!

    total newbie with first experiment

Hi - it's great that you are interested in making your own beer and wine, but I worry that the results might put you off homebrew for life. If you don't have the equipment to hand, why don't you try one of those 'beer in one bag' kits. You just add a little tap water and you'll get something...

How to make yeast stick to the bottom a bottle conditioned beer

I don't want to comment on the rights/wrongs of the specific case, but I just wanted to say that this forum has been incredibly useful to me and - I'm sure - many other beginners. I'm sure being a forum admin is a pretty thankless job, so I just wanted to say thanks to EskiBrew and the rest of...
