    First (13th) AG Brew

AG #13 - Apache Longbow APA - Back to the Shed (garage)! EDIT: Special thanks to 2013 me for getting the process etc. down in a blog, because I've basically forgotten everything. It's here if you're interested (and also in my sig, I notice): The (increasingly inaccurately named) Shed Brewer...

    Returning Brewer

Thanks! I'm doing an SNPA clone. Mrs B keeps bringing them home from Sainsburys and they keep disappearing too quick :) I ordered the ingredients from Brew UK this afternoon

    Returning Brewer

Hi all, After being one of those people who couldn't understand how anyone could possibly just stop brewing... I stopped for 10 years. So I'm not exaclty a new member, more the prodigal son returning after 10 years in the wilderness. I'm Chris, 48, married with 3 kids and have something like...

    Yeast head persists

Not if you're careful :) Also, as they tend to either float or sink to the bottom, they end up either where I'd normally stop bottling or in the trub. That's been my experience anyway. @Vossy it's around 1010 so probably not a lot left to go, if anything. I've S-04 go mental before now and drop...

    Cascade SMaSH

Looks very similar to my latest one! I went for 19L so 3500g M. Otter, with 200g amber to see what happens if I use it instead of crystal which I ran out of. In my 60 minute boil I did 30g @ 60mins, 30g @ 15 mins and 30g at flame out with the last 10g for dry hopping. Looking forward to a...

    Yeast head persists

Hi all I have an APA in my FV which I got started a week ago Saturday. I left it for a week intending to dry hop it after fermentation had died down. It came to Friday and I checked inside to find there was still a layer of yeast on top of the brew. I've not seen this before, as usually it...

    grain first or water????

Personally I've calibrated my HLT but only in 5 litre increments, so mine is always "roughly" 2.5:1 I also run in the water before grain and, though I've not had problems with dough balls, but I do suffer from uneven temp even with vigorous stirring. Underletting is the way forward I think.

    Thanks To DaveMack

Good luck with the AG - you'll never look back ! I can say with some authority that it pretty much always turns out well despite even monumental howlers, and what are seemingly my best efforts to f it up :D

    Planning AG#8 - Red ale

This dropped down to 1005! 89% attenuation and now 5.8% as opposed to a light 4.7% :o I knew S-04 were good but wasn't prepared for that... not exactly a wasted batch but really not what I was aiming for. Any suggestions how/why this yeast went so nuts? Mash temp was 68'C dropping...

    Planning AG#8 - Red ale

Bottling this tomorrow so will have a sneaky QA ;) I'm calling it "Rubilee", in honour of the jubilee and, it being ruby, and the beer being red, and there being a street party I will be carting some of these off to - it all falls in to place :D

    Planning AG#8 - Red ale

This one's in the bag! Perfect day for brewing yesterday, plus imminent hose pipe ban will render brewing in the shed difficult for a while. I went with suggestion by Kev and used black malt, to seemingly great effect. Full details of the day are on my blog but in summary: Grains 0.25 kg...

    Planning AG#8 - Red ale

Cheers Kev will give that a go. Maybe I'll replace roasted barley with black malt ...

    Planning AG#8 - Red ale

Hi all Having got some Late Red in that was on offer at S'bury's I've taken quite a shine to it, so looking to make something similar for the coming summer months. It mentions EKG and Cascade on the label, and it tasted nice and hoppy, a bit like an APA I made a while back, so I've knocked...

    Brown Ale

:thumb: Now that would be great, as I've done a few kits in my earlier brewing life that I'd love to know exactly what went into them. I've thought if its this good as a kit, it must be exceptional as a partial mash or all grain! :)

40th Birthday Beer Brew Day - Courage Directors

I did it last brew. Got the black malt quantity wrong  but the result was great anyway so I reckon it will be even better if you get it right :) Let us know how it turns out, as I'd like to have another crack at it! Good luck :)
