    Wellington

..so in this case, HLT = FV cos it's only mere kit brew :D

    Wellington

HLT? Definitely not too hot - without too much detail it's effectively brewing outside with a temp controlled brew belt keeping it between 18 and 19 degrees. I have had hints of TCP before which could well be due to the brew getting a bit warm, but this stuff is foul. Something went very wrong...

Lesson well learned, cheers. What actually happens between the yeast and chlorine?

    Wellington

I have them but didn't bother this time... :-( not been a problem for countless other brews. P'raps I didn't rinse out the keg and/or FV... Bugger

    Wellington

So I tried a Wellington Wheat Beer kit from the Home Brew Shop. It's been in the keg now for a month and tastes dreadful - properly chemical as if I emptied a bottle of TCP in there. As for hoppiness, seems to have very little actual flavour which is what I was after having really enjoyed...

Cornie arrived regulator on way BUT where to get co2?

Sorry to resurrect an old(ish) thread but I have a similar problem. I bought my 2kg bottle off Norm last year and it's only now running out. I want to make sure I can hook up a new bottle from http://gascylindersuk.co.uk/shop/index. ... &cat_id=18 to my regulator - can anyone confirm or deny...

If I ever own a pub...

We have been in this place for 5 months and used that loo maybe 5 times. Plus it's chuffing freezing in there at the moment!

If I ever own a pub...

Bad brew? Never met one... (except Stella, obviously) That's the old Coopers FV.

...it'll be called "The Downstairs Loo"

New toy - brew belt controller

To be precise, I got this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0303255556 (accidentally ordered it through the missus' account  ) It's the orange thing underneath the edge of my fermenter in the photo. Here's the temp controller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...

Nope, still looks correct. NB talking about a brew belt, not a heat mat. Convection will create a falling current at the centre with temperatures lowest at the bottom. The best place for an average reading is top centre therefore.

The opposite. In fact the coldest point (the last to be heated by free convection) would be at the bottom centre. I'm sure it makes naff all difference really. If we had to keep it constant to within a tenth of a degree this stuff would matter.

New toy - brew belt controller

Not Trying to start an argument, I have no problem with danglng a little molded plastic sensor by its wire from the lid just like you hsve no problem cutting a hole in the side of your fermenter and taking readings from there... to each his own. Either way is better than the yo-yoing temp I was...

New toy - brew belt controller

It would work that way on all planets. Physics innit ;)

New toy - brew belt controller

Brew belt heats by convection from the circumference so the centre is where to take the most accurate reading.

Anyone recommend a good Bitter kit

Brupaks Colne Valley. Trust me. :thumb:

I think about 7 working days.

the sensor on mine is just a little sealed pastic knobble on the wire end. It has to contact the brew one way or another, and is easy to sanitise. Plus mine reads from the top middle, not the side ;)

If it's the same as mine DON'T LOSE THE INSTRUCTIONS. Once you know how it works, it's very simple but I truly could not figure it out without them!

For what it costs, I reckon everyone should invest :thumb: It also has a cooling function which I haven't wired up.
