    Homemade boiler not working.

A build up of wort in the element is more than likely the problem. It's causing the element to be slightly insulated from the wort you are boiling and causing it to get slightly hotter and tripping the safety cutout. You've got 2 options. Either clean the element(s) meticulously after each boil...

    Gas vs Electric Boiler

I use an 8kw burner running from a low pressure butane regulator for my 65 litre pot. It works fine. I understand some people are using a high pressure regulator with the same burner with good results. I don't know of any difference with efficiency. Once it's boiling, it's boiling - it doesn't...

    keg dispension help please

Why would you need taps? There is a valve in the ball-lock disconnects that close when not connected.

    Sight Glass Fitting

I've been using a dipstick so far in this HLT, but it's a PITA since it requires one hand to hold the dipstick vertical.

    Sight Glass Fitting

I'm in the process of fitting a sight glass to my converted keg HLT. The keg is a bottom drain, so I thought I'd be clever and tee off the pipe coming out the bottom and attach the sight tube to that. It works perfectly until... (you've guessed it) I come to drain the HLT. At which point, it...

Double Dog Brewing - New brewery build

I used OpenOffice, as I'm a Linux geek. I've never used Apple Numbers so I don't know what it's capable of. When creating the chart, you need to select something like "X/Y Graph" or "Scattergraph". Most spreadsheets I've seen are capable of scatter graphs. Fewer are able to put the nice neat...

    John Guest Fittings

For future reference, this place on ebay sells a good variety of JG fittings.

    Temperature Controller Wiring

Well, it appears my fridge is faulty. I've just put the plug back on, and it trips the RCD straight away. I guess I must gave caught a cable or something when I moved it as it was working perfectly before.

    peoples views on kegs

Well, you're going to need the corny. Obviously. Then you need a disconnect for the gas in and one for the liquid out. Norm is by far the cheapest I have seen, currently at £55 for the corny, a pair of disconnect and some 3/8" pipework. On top of that, you'll need a source of CO2. Here you...

drinking straight after bottling good idea or bad?

It won't do you any harm. I usually have a bit of a tipple straight out of the FV. Depending on the beer, it will take around 4 weeks to come into condition. It's actually worth doing, just so you can see how the flavours develop over time. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    Temperature Controller Wiring

I've taken the plug off it, so I'd have to put one back on to check it. It was working fine before I butchered it though... Yeah, it's definately the RCD That was how I understood it, and what I suspect is going on. No, but it is a split load board. Half is RCD protected and half isn't. I've...

    Temperature Controller Wiring

I've wired up both my temperature controllers. The heating circuit works fine, but for some reason as soon as it switches to the cooling circuit my RCD trips. I've wired them according to this diagram. Apologies for the quality. I'm not using my own computer and I couldn't figure out how to draw...

    Friday Brew - Tribute Tribute

I'm having another brew day tomorrow with TheMumbler. The intention is to do another double-ish length brew to fill 2 fermenters. Recipe as follows (for 40 litres) 6.000kg Maris Otter 1.500kg German Munich 0.300kg Torrified Wheat 50g @ 90min Fuggles (4.9%AA) 10g @ 90min Willamette (6.7%AA)...

    Help, I'm new to cornies

I notice you are using the midget widget. Bear in mind that the pressure in the corny will drop as the gas is absorbed into the beer. So each time you connect the widget the reading will have dropped, and you'll have to pop a bit of gas in. A lot of people get all worried they have a leak.

    Beer line

Yes. 3/16 would be your best best. I bought beer line from Leyland Homebrew, but it wouldn't surprise me if Norm can get you some. I got the 3/16 to 3/8 reducers off ebay but, again, Norm is probably your man. There's also a few free-standing taps with drip trays on ebay. When it comes to...

    Pints of froth

I assume by "attach" you mean that you want to mount the tap somewhere? The two most popular options are either mounting the tap nearby - I've got mine mounted on an old piece of wood - or else mount the tap on the corny itself. That basically involves drilling a hole in the handle of the corny...

    Pints of froth

The cheapest I have found them is from Norm. There's a link to his email address somewhere on the forum. Off the top of my head it's normansplace @ hotmail . com (but please check) He charged me £12 + p&p. You'll also have to get a length of beer line (preferably 5/16") and a black disconnect...
