I did this exact conversion on my two Buffalo boilers, there is a write up on my website (follow the www button below!). Alternatively there is a post somewhere on here by Rpt that you can search for.

for mine I took out the original tap and used a conical drill bit to enlarge the hole. I used a male and female 1/2inch to 15mm compression fitting so I had a compression either side but if I was to do it again I would just go with a tank connector and drill the centre out. then I used 15mm copper pipe made to fit inside the lowest recess around the element with loads of 2mm holes on the underside. the boiler drains quick enough and when left to settle after cooling filters brilliantly and leaves very little in the boiler. on the outside theres a small stub of pipe then a ball valve.
not very good but you can see how it fits in the recess then just has the holes on the bottom
