Can anyone expain the advantages to using a malt extract. Also do they replace all the required sugars for fermentation or do you require a bit of both??

Depends on what you are using it for. If you are adding it to a kit beer instead of sugar then it will give more body and flavour. The more expensive kits come with all malt extract, where as the cheaper ones just have 1 tin and you add about 1kg sugar. You could also add beer enhancer rather than sugar which is half and half glucose and dried malt extract.

Thanks Bob,

I added it to a Cooper's european larger, however my readings were a bit low with 23 litres of water?? So I adding some additional sugar to boost my readings?
