Hello all,

I have just treated myself to a scatter and cider press. Does anyone know then best way to get hold of a bunch of free/cheap cider apples?

Thanks for any pointers.

We made ours this year from any old apples.
Get a good mix of eaters, cookers & some crab apples & you'll be ok.
Be quick, they're falling fast!

for 'cider' apples rather than just eaters, or desserts, take a trip up to the Three Counties (Gloucester, Herefordshire, Worcestershire) area, and have a drive round there. Mostly though, any spare get picked and sent to Westons, or other local cider makers. Cider specific apples are quite sought after, so you're unlikely to find any going for free, but you never know, you might get lucky.
as others said - a good mix of all varieties should be fine.
