My next brew day is scheduled for 31st Oct / 1st Nov......looks like I got the basis of a recepie

Count me in, as I have most of the ingredients anyways!
And before any body takes the name, mine will be called By Keg Inn :D

I'm going to brew this next Sunday, 1st Nov, so just need to work out if I have all the ingredients as I have a funny feeling that I am out of chocolate malt. :wha:

Here it is for Sunday - I tried to keep as close as I could with the stock I have at the moment.

The second will be a Old Tom. nice dark strong winter ale. And won't need anything other than whats in the cupboard!

Just to report that I have 25 litres of Big Kenny tucked up in the garage after a rather enjoyable brew morning.

Wez, I'm fermenting at 18C - is that about right? :?

Nice one Dunfie :D
My brewday is postponed until the weekend......the weather here on Sunday was appalling :x

It was shocking up here too but I do the majority of it in the garage so it was a good use of a horrible morning.

I take it that you brew outside?

Part out, part in.
Mash and sparge inside....boil outside.

So the hot liquor tub is on.....just working out some water treatments......it could be a late one

I may change the hop schedule slightly........use more towards the end of the boil to really try and accentuate the hops.
I'll post the revised recipe later if I do.

Right, work to do

Hi chaps, love to join in on this one too when you looking at posting bottles as i have no brew time availiable for a few weeks yet :?

Not sure on that one shaun.

Here is the revised hop schedule I used:

28.5g fuggles 90 min, 9.4 IBU
28.9g EKG 90 min, 10.6 IBU

21.3g fuggles 30 min, 5.1 IBU
61.8g EKG 20 min, 12.9 IBU

Roughly half the bitterness from full boil hops and half at 30 mins or less.
I hope it works

25g styrian goldings & 10g EKG steeped 20 mins @ 80 degrees.

Evenin all, BY KEG INN, is now fermenting away nicely see brew day thread

I've stuck to the Grain recipe apart from I've Hit 1.055 OG, The hop bill will be a suprise for you all as I like to mesh with these things and see if results can be tasted not just from seeing the recipe.!!

I take it these will be posted after Xmas when the post is a bit quieter? We need to do a poll or something to define a end date. If were sticking to Wez's habbits these need posting next weekend cos Wez drinks them after 24hrs in the keg

I like the sound of that, I'll leave that up to Dunfie :thumb:

The Big Kenny recipe that I usually go with is :

Target OG 1.050
Target IBU 38
Mash 90 mins 68c
Boil 90 mins

Pale Malt 97%
Crystal Malt (dark) 1.5%
Roasted Barley 1%
Chocolate Malt 0.5%

Challenger 90 mins to 33IBU
Fuggles 15 mins to 5IBU
Bobek 1g per L Final Volume added at 80c and steeped for 15 mins

I have also replaced 5% of the Pale with Torrified Wheat or Wheat Malt

I usually ferment with S-04

Last time I did a Big Kenny type brew I put 2 tins of golden syrup into a 10 gallon batch to pep it up a bit, tasted great but the hangover was unbearable...

I'm going to try this recipe as it was intended for my next brew, might post a little brew porn if I think on!

John
