Over the last few months I've noticed more having some previous health issues raise their heads.
Either due to me having more coffees than usual or drinking more beer/alcohol I don't know.

I'm giving up the coffee first to see if that makes an improvement, so far it has and it's only been a couple of days.

The beer/alcohol will be the next test. I've got a mini keg left to drink over the bank holiday weekend.
Thinking if I have any flare ups then I'm just going to sell all my kit, as even though I love the hobby it's pointless if it contributes to health issues.

That would be a great shame and I hope you don't have to sell your kit. But it might be neither of those things and you really ought to see your GP first.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

you really need to see the docs if you haven't already and there will be only one outcome from that unfortunately he/she will tell you to give up both.
Here's hoping it is not the drink but you must do best for your health so good health and good luck athumb..

Yep, another vote for a visit to the GP.
If you're lucky enough to have one that's sympathetic to the real world they may not automatically say to give up the beer.
A few years ago I needed to start taking warfarin. Lifelong so no way out of it.
I was up front with the nurse who regularly checks my INR (the higher the number the longer it takes for you to stop bleeding), alcohol tends to raise that number. I always tell her where I'm up to with my consumption and get checked before and after holidays and weekends away with Mrs soupdragon as my consumption does increase on those occasions. I've never been lectured on the evils of alcohol. Up to now things are going well.
Point is to be honest with your GP, you might be surprised how they respond

Cheers Tom

Agree with others see the Doc, I got kidney stones trekking in Borneo, I passed one the next day but the doctors at the hospital advised me to see a specialist when I got back as there was still one on the wall of my bladder. The specialist told me stones don't stick to the side of the bladder, went in through the eye of the trouser snake, turned out it was bladder cancer, just starting! Took it out and said I was lucky as there are no symptoms for bladder cancer until it is too late. He advised me not to drink but if the cancer is out why not? So carry on drinking it was for me, we all have to die of something, enjoy life while you can.

I've seen the doctor when things originally happened years ago. I got anal fissures quite badly then, to the point the loo paper was bright red.
For years I didn't notice anything down there but certainly recently I've noticed it's been getting really aggravated.
There's certain things that have increased since the original.
I'll be getting it checked out to make sure it's nothing more serious.

I agree with being honest about how much you drink, after my HA in March a cardiac nurse came to see me at home and yes she asked if i drank and how much to which i was totally up front with her i then told her i was a home brewer i also showed her some pics on my phone of me brewing and my fridge with 2 kegs and gas and taps, she she gave me advice on the 14 units a week she had a little wry smile on her face while telling me, i went back to see to see her 8 weeks later and she was happy and signed me off for 12 months, i have cut down but still drink more than 14 units a week, if you are not honest with them and your self it is like pissing in the wind and they won't be able to help you

So I went to the docs yesterday and while they couldnt see any issues around the back passage they are referring to a specialist on the safe side, but said either way a lifestyle change will help prevent future issues. They didn't want to say cut alcohol out completely but said a single drink now and again won't probably hurt.
I've also noticed that dairy and spice have it's play in issues so have to redress all those too as well as caffeine.
My wife's tried to be the optimist/hopeful one and I appreciate all your comments.

I was quite relieved after my heart attack when they gave me a booklet on being sent home - it said regarding alcohol that it was ok to carry on as you were . Phew.

I Know with some illnesses alcohol can be a game changer and in those cases I would always advise people to follow the advice but I think whatever the illness a doctor will always say do not smoke do not drink and eat lettuce leaves.
Who wants to live 1 year longer or enjoy the rest of your life I know what my choice would be under those circumstances athumb.. :beer1:

You’ve just reminded me of an incident when we were on holiday. Our youngest daughter’s boyfriend came with us and he joked that he was allergic to lettuce. My wife told him to get it down him because it’s good for you. He did and he almost immediately he came out in a big rash! 😲

I still have no idea whether it had anything to do with the lettuce but why take the chance! 😂

Sounds like IBS, I had similar issues and changed my lifestyle and it improved, no real cure just a matter of managing it, hope it's nothing more serious, everything in moderation really seems to help, IBS is mostly caused by stress to my knowledge.

Yeah I'm thinking along the same lines.
Do you still brew?
I've cut everything that I'm thinking adds to it.
ATM I'm in the mindset why do I want to drink or have diary or coffee if it causes me discomfort. I had a beer the other night and woke up early hours with a ache below my ribs and the lower half sounding like trumpets.
Stress has been really bad the last few weeks. My toddler was ill with scarlet fever and during the same time been told the job I applied for and was offered the job (a job I've been doing on temp promotion for 18months) I might have to re-apply for as HR noticed a discrepancy on the job advert details.
So not been the best few weeks.
