Hi all,

today I made a grape an apple wine. I found a home brew supply shop near where I live only a 10 min drive away and picked up some more equipment which allowed me to be able to make another batch of wine it was great value for money and they had a lot of good stuff I will definitely be purchasing my equipment from there in the future to support a local business.

The recipe goes as follows:

2ltr RGJ
2ltr Apple juice
Mug of strong black tea
500g sugar
1 tsp young’s wine yeast
1 tsp yeast nutrient

the SG was 1.086 and this is what it looked like

If you haven't already seen it have a look at the supermarket juice wine thread here -

4 x litres of juice in a gallon DJ may be a little OTT we tend to use 2.5 which is fine, let us know how the 4 litre version works out.

Our favourite -

Rosé wine

1 litre Red grape juice.

1.5 litre Apple Juice.

750g Sugar.

1 tsp Tannin or a mug of very strong black tea. (3 bags stirred every couple of minutes as you put the rest of the ingredients together)

1 tsp Yeast (i use youngs super wine yeast compound)

1 tsp Yeast Nutrient.

1 tsp Pectolase.

1 tsp Glycerine. (optional)

1 tsp citric acid or juice of one lemon. (optional)

I saw that threat but was confused by the recipe but I now understand that the rest of the volume is topped up with water so I kind of melded the idea of using apple and grape juice with what I’ve seen CS do and just used juice how does this recipe turn out? I would’ve thought that the additional water would water down the flavours of the wine

We try to mimic wine so don't want something too strong tasting, the original Wurzels Orange Wine recipe only used 1 litre of grape juice and 1 of apple juice i added an extra half a litre of apple juice to give it as little more taste i think 4 litres of juice will be overkill but at the end of the day its all personal choice there is no right or wrong.

Let us know how it turns out.

Update this started out very dark almost the same colour as the rgj I used but this has really lightened a lot in the past 2 days and taken on a very rosey pink colour. I’m planning on making the wow rosé recipe tomorrow and then comparing them in the future but so far it’s looking good.

In your experience how long does this usually take to ferment and what sort of flavour should I expect? I am attempting this recipe tomorrow evening when I get home going to make a quick stop at my local brew shop to pick up another dj and some other supplies to make this.

Took a gravity reading today which was 1.012 took a taste and as my palate isn’t trained to me I just tasted like a young wine not something that I would really want to drink anyway I’m stabilising before racking into secondary to clear hoping that later down on the line it’s something that I’d enjoy to drink with a bit of age
