If boiled dry, the plastic parts melt resulting in contacts being broken, but not before you've melted your plastic bucket a bit. (from experience). In a s/steel vessel shouldn't be an issue, you develop your own safety methods, ie. don't even plug in until elements are covered

they melt over a long boil aswell so i disabled mine
mine melted over a 90 min boil
just split the connector block and solder the connector strip inside the plug
job done

Burco turned up today, very satisfied. Filled it up and did a test boil which resulted in a good rolling boil, not over violent but OK. So I think I will rest content with the kit.
