Hi - I’ve just joined the forum, I have a background in engineering.
I have been asked to look at a Hi-Gene hand pull for a friend who has a home bar. The piston ring is missing and it could use a full service. I can’t see a model number anywhere. It has a 50mm dia 95mm long cylinder. Could anyone advise if a seal kit is available in the UK and who would supply spares? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Thanks Foxy - looks like it's a Hi-Gene model B deluxe. Volume of cylinder 95×50mm comes out at .33 pint so probably 1/3 pint model (maybe 1/4 pint) as piston ring is about 10mm thick) Colin Farrar Brewing doesn't seem to be in business but RLBS seem to have a lot of parts & I'll contact them. Thanks for your help. Steve.

No worries, the real old beer engines had a leather piston ring, but if you can't get what you want make a silicone one.

Found a silicone circular Ice cube mold in the “middle at Lidl” exactly 50mm diameter - cut it down to stretch over piston & cleaned throughout, works fine now, thanks for help.

I have the same or very similar engine, whilst overhauling it I found a few seals perished but not all. I found the required seals at RLBS. They were very helpful also supplied breather /non return valve

Thanks for the reply - I will contact RLBS to see if they can supply an OEM piston ring. The silicone one I fabricated from an ice cube mold works well but may not last through heavy use. Cheers
