Would like to try hot steeping grains and adding to simply pale ale kit then dry hopping,
I’ve only previously made extract kits.
Any advice much appreciated on the best grain to use, would like to keep it nice and light in colour if poss,
i gather there Is a few light steeping varieties but which would be best for an IPA / pale ale.
I’ve made this before as intended and also dry hopped with Ekg and they were both very nice,
but fancy trying a different hop variety this time.
Any links to threads covering hot Steeping with an extract kit. Thanks

If u browse through your homebrew supplier site in the grain section it will give u a good description of each grain and it uses just take it from there
U will get your ideas from there

Thanks, just been on the Crossmyloof website i’ve ordered 500g caramalt and 50g cascade.
wasn’t sure if to go for crystal light or caramalt as both seem similar,
any idea how malt much i should use for the steep?
Or how much cascade to dry hop with? I’ve previously only used Ekg.

What I'd do is

Steep 250 grams of the grain in 2 litres of water @70-75C for 30-40 minutes.
I usually put the grain in a hop bag.
Remove the grain. Boil the liquid for 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and add half the hops and leave for 30-40 minutes.
Add that to your FV with the kit & yeast.
Add the other half of the hops after fermentation has died down.

I would use all cascade in dry hop
I never used caramalt but when using crystal I used the 500g

Thanks for the reply’s. Will i be ok rinsing the grains with a few litres of water at 70c?
I Plan on splitting after ferment and dry hopping one half with cascade and other
With Ekg.
